Positioned just outside the entry point, the Standby Man ensures the continuous safety of personnel inside the confined space by monitoring working conditions, maintaining constant communication, and initiating emergency procedures if necessary.

Responsibilities

Remain stationed outside the confined space at all times while work is in progress.

Maintain continuous visual and/or verbal contact with workers inside.
→
Monitor environmental conditions to detect any hazards (e.g., gas, temperature, oxygen level).

Immediately initiate emergency response procedures if required.
→
Ensure all entry permits and safety procedures are strictly followed.
→
Maintain communication with the safety team and site supervisor throughout the operation.
→
Prevent unauthorized entry into the confined space.
→
Accurately log and report any incidents or observations.
