Our Personal Lines division operates across more than 100 high street branches and offices, supporting individuals and families protect the things that matter most. From home, car, private medical and critical illness cover, we deliver specialist personal insurance solutions and find the best possible cover, price and terms for our clients.
Join our supportive and high-performing Sales team and help connect clients with the insurance solutions they need. You'll gain hands-on experience in sales, learn how to build strong client relationships, and develop the skills needed to win new business in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
You’ll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.
Responsibilities
~1 min readYou will begin with a structured induction before joining our Personal Lines team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.
During the programme, you'll:
- →Learn the foundations of insurance, customer service and sales through hands-on experience and structured training.
- →Support colleagues in finding suitable insurance solutions for new and existing clients.
- →Play an active role in achieving sales goals by securing new business opportunities and supporting client renewals.
- →Develop your written communication skills by preparing professional client correspondence.
- →Build confidence speaking with clients and insurers, helping to answer queries and gather information, both via email and during phone calls.
- →Learn how to build long-term relationships and provide excellent customer service.
- →Support with maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records.
- →Learn how amendments to insurance policies are managed as well as the policy renewals process.
- A final year or recent school, sixth form or college leaver.
- Confident communicating with a wide range of people, including over the phone.
- Resilient, take challenges in your stride and enjoy working in fast paced environments.
- Curious and motivated to learn, with a genuine interest in developing your knowledge and skills.
- Energised by targets and committed to delivering results, even when situations become challenging.
- Someone who enjoys building positive relationships and working with others.
- Able to express your ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Comfortable working with numbers and handling basic numerical information accurately.
- Organised, dependable and able to manage your time and workload effectively.
- Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
- Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.
- Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
- Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.

- Online gamified assessment: We’ve created games that will help us understand your natural strengths and how you approach different situations. There are no right or wrong answers. You can complete this stage on your phone or laptop, whichever suits you best!
- Pre-recorded video interview: You will record your answers to a few questions using your phone or laptop, giving you the chance to tell us more about yourself in your own time in a relaxed setting.
- Assessment centre: Our final stage is an in-person assessment centre at one of our offices. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture. We'll cover all your travel costs for this day, because where you are now, shouldn’t hold back your future!
