Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
IOM operates Five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters) providing accommodation and access to services for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC). Besides accommodation, the following services are provided to the beneficiaries: addressing basic needs, catering, hygiene, legal counselling, and information about life opportunities in Greece, interpretation, psychosocial support, medical support, Greek learning programs, learning support, organization of intercultural activities, work and career guidance.

Thessaloniki" with MIS Code 6016490 the Program "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027" Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the National Project Officer (Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) Protection), the successful candidate will provide support in coordinating project activities related to the provision of assistance and protection of UMCs residing in the shelters under the scope of the project.
- Oversee the implementation and compliance of child protection policy, ensuring adherence across all operational activities.
- Assist with the coordination of the protection activities to ensure mainstreaming of such activities, exchanges of good practices, and valid information dissemination across all shelters.
- Propose, draft, and regularly update standard operating procedure (SOP) and other tools such as guidance notes to guide daily operations in the shelters.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to Shelter Coordinators on all protection-related issues, including crisis management, of the UMCs accommodated at the shelters.
- Conduct regular on-site monitoring visits and attend protection field meetings.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly project reports to the donor and the verification of all supporting documentation of protection activities. Support in other ad hoc reports as may be requested.
- Maintain regular communication with counterpart donors, partners, and relevant Greek national authorities related to the migration and asylum of UMCs.
- Actively participate in recruitment processes; and provide support in training and monitoring of shelter staff.
- Bring to the attention of the Project Coordinator any possible setbacks and operational constraints. Propose solutions and provide support in addressing the challenges.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
~1 min read- University degree in Humanities, Psychosocial Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum five years of relevant work experience.
- Master’s degree in above fields is an advantage.
- Τraining in one or more of below subjects an advantage:
- child protection;
- the protection of unaccompanied minors;
- vulnerability management;
- the reception of applicants for international protection;
- the integration of recognized beneficiaries of international protection.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
- Minimum five years of related work experience in a humanitarian setting required;
- Progressive experience in coordination of protection activities, demonstrating a good understanding of international protection protocols;
- Experience working in a coordination and/ or management role;
- Experience working in accommodation facility for migrants, particularly UMCs, is preferred;
- Experience working with national-funded projects an advantage;
- Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and stakeholders, working in international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization;
- Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting;
- Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
- Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages;
- Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems;
- Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, fluency in Greek is required (oral and written).
Working Knowledge of English is required (oral and written).
