Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Protection), the incumbent will support protection data analysis, reporting workflows and activities for the Protection Unit.

  1. Support and coordinate data analysis and reporting functions; monitor ongoing reporting and analytical activities to verify work is proceeding according to established plans; support the maintenance, optimization and analysis of workflow challenges, including notebook-driven work and dashboard-based products and recommend adjustments to respond to operational and reporting needs.

  2. Regularly research, follow up, compile, analyse and present information/data (qualitative and quantitative) on protection trends, as well as inter-agency and national, regional and international developments, reports, and other relevant documentation, supporting reporting and programme activities highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.

  3. Support the maintenance and updating of analytical tools and reporting products for the Protection Unit, including trackers, pivot‑based tools, analytical summaries, and Power BI dashboards, translating operational data into clear, actionable insights. 

  4. Monitor budget and project related information and outputs; work closely with Programme Support and Administrative colleagues to support alignment between analytical reporting, activity tracking, approved proposals, budgets and donor agreements.

  5. Coordinate and monitor the financial, administrative and reporting-related aspects of the project in line with IOM policies and donor requirements, prioritizing the traceability, validation and consistency of analytical datasets, indicators and reporting outputs used across the Protection Unit.

  6. Support the planning, coordination and delivery of capacity building workshops on reporting tools, analytical products, data quality, data protection practices for relevant internal and external parties. 

  7. Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project. 

  8. Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, narrative and financial reports; verify that status reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner, supporting validation of figures, consistency across data sources, and alignment with agreed indicators and targets.

  9. Identify and document good practices and lessons learned; contribute to the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP), policies and concept papers and support the development of new projects, supporting improved protection reporting systems, data quality processes.

  10. Provide guidance and support to reporting staff and colleagues on reporting processes and tools. 

  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with seven years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting reporting workflows and data management processes used for programme monitoring, analysis, and reporting.

  • Experience using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric. 

  • Familiarity with data processing and analytical reporting tools for data consolidation and analysis (Microsoft Fabric or similar environments is a distinct advantage).

  • Experience managing the extraction, consolidation, validation, and maintenance of programme data from data collection tools (KOBO, Excel, SQL database server preferred) and integrating datasets into reporting tools and dashboards.

  • Experience supporting the preparation and maintenance of reporting products, including dashboards, analytical summaries, and data visualizations.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to support troubleshooting data quality and reporting issues.
  • Excellent understanding of data collection methodologies, data quality assurance and analytical validation processes.
  • Proficiency data analysis and data visualization tools, including Power BI and Excel.
  • Good understanding of data protection, confidentiality, and ethical data‑use principles in protection and case‑based programming contexts.
  • Awareness of IOM Afghanistan operations, protection risks, and vulnerabilities faced by undocumented Afghan returnees and other vulnerable populations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian protection principles and assistance frameworks.
  • Ability to support programme teams through data and analytical products, including support on reporting requirements and use of reporting products.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written)
