Schedule: Full Time 40 hours per week; 8 hours per day in office (remote work may be authorized on a case-by-case basis)

IronMountain Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer supporting an upcoming Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSO) effort in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the evaluation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of existing aviation platforms. This role is critical to ensuring reliable and efficient retrofitting or upgrading structural components in complex mechanical and electromechanical platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or a related field with eight (8) years of relevant experience or twelve (12) years of relevant experience (Mechanical Designer) without a degree is required with emphasis on evaluation, repair, modification, or production support of aviation platforms.
- Proficient in interpreting mechanical drawings, tolerance standards (GD&T), and aerospace hardware specifications.
- Familiarity with aircraft mechanical systems (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, flight control surfaces, environmental control systems, etc.).
- Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge of composite materials, corrosion prevention, and mechanical testing.
- Experience with PLM/ERP tools (Teamcenter, SAP, Windchill).
- Hands-on knowledge of aircraft systems integration, rigging, or ground support equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and make engineering decisions under tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Provide technical support for the inspection, disassembly, and reassembly of mechanical components and subsystems during aircraft overhaul.
- →Develop and review repair instructions, technical dispositions, and engineering orders for non-conforming or damaged mechanical parts.
- →Collaborate with OEMs and regulatory agencies to ensure repair solutions meet airworthiness standards and applicable service bulletins.
- →Support the manufacturing, assembly, and integration of mechanical systems in new production or retrofit programs.
- →Resolve engineering issues during assembly such as tolerance stack-ups, material substitution, or tooling interference.
- →Provide input on fixture design, installation sequence, and manufacturability.
- →Interpret and generate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for assemblies, subassemblies, and tooling.
- →Support minor modifications and system upgrades, ensuring compatibility with existing platforms and compliance with ASME Y14.100 standards.
- →Maintain and manage engineering change orders (ECOs) and configuration control documentation.
- →Participate in technical investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action efforts related to mechanical issues.
- →Coordinate with DERs, inspectors, and QA to support conformity inspections and certifications.
- →Work closely with maintenance teams, suppliers, and other engineers to resolve technical issues.
- →Support first article inspections (FAI), process validations, and design reviews.
- →Interface with customers or end users to resolve field issues or offer technical support for mechanical systems.
- →While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
