This senior technology leadership role oversees the strategy, architecture, engineering, and reliable operation of enterprise infrastructure and modern workplace platforms. You will shape the roadmap across Microsoft 365, identity and access management, endpoints, cloud and hybrid infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, backup, and monitoring. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical execution, particularly during the initial development of the function. You will lead engineers and managed service partners while remaining deeply involved in architecture, automation, implementation, and complex troubleshooting. Success will depend on building secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective technology foundations. You will collaborate closely with security, data, applications, quality, AI, and business teams in a regulated environment. This is an opportunity to influence enterprise technology strategy while directly improving operational reliability and business continuity.

Define and execute enterprise infrastructure and modern workplace roadmaps, architecture standards, technology lifecycle plans, and modernization strategies spanning AWS, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoints, networking, compute, storage, backup, recovery, and monitoring.

Act as a hands-on technical leader by designing, configuring, automating, implementing, and troubleshooting complex infrastructure solutions using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Infrastructure as Code, and other relevant technologies.

Lead high-risk technical decisions, major infrastructure changes, escalations, and initiatives while improving platform reliability, security, scalability, performance, automation, cost efficiency, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.

Establish engineering, configuration, documentation, testing, monitoring, identity, endpoint, Zero Trust, information protection, and lifecycle standards in collaboration with cybersecurity, risk, and quality stakeholders.

Lead, coach, and develop infrastructure engineers while overseeing service desk operations, managed service providers, and vendors through clear ownership models, service levels, performance metrics, escalation processes, and accountability.

Partner with application, data, AI, security, quality, and business teams to translate organizational requirements into secure, scalable, supportable technology platforms and ensure effective implementation and operational handoff.

Manage infrastructure budgets, forecasts, cloud consumption, Microsoft licensing, contracts, vendor relationships, capacity planning, technical debt, and investment priorities.

Communicate technology roadmaps, service performance, operational risks, dependencies, and strategic trade-offs to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

15+ years of progressive experience across enterprise infrastructure, platform engineering, AWS and Microsoft cloud technologies, modern workplace platforms, and technology operations.

7+ years of experience leading technical teams and enterprise platform capabilities, with demonstrated success balancing hands-on engineering with people and operational leadership.

Proven experience managing people, vendors, budgets, technology roadmaps, and enterprise operational outcomes.

Strong expertise in AWS infrastructure and Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Intune, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Graph.

Deep knowledge of Azure and hybrid cloud architecture, enterprise networking, identity and endpoint engineering, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, business continuity, scripting, automation, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and monitoring.

Experience with Zero Trust, conditional access, identity governance, privileged access, endpoint security, secure cloud configuration, regulated-system controls, IT service management, incident and problem management, change management, service levels, and managed service performance.

Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred; exposure to GxP environments is an advantage.

Strong communication, coaching, stakeholder management, vendor management, negotiation, prioritization, and decision-making skills, with sound judgment around internal development, managed services, automation, and external expertise.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate values centered on courage, community, patient focus, and teamwork.

Ability to travel approximately 15–30% and work onsite or face-to-face with colleagues in San Diego as needed; this is not a fully remote position.
