This role provides essential operational support for manuscript submissions and peer review within a global academic publishing environment.
You will manage assigned manuscripts from detailed scope and submission checks through reviewer selection and peer review coordination.
The position combines editorial administration, stakeholder communication, workflow management, and quality control.
You will work closely with authors, reviewers, editors, and colleagues across multiple international locations.
Success in the role requires excellent organization, attention to detail, responsiveness, and a strong service mindset.
You will also have opportunities to develop expertise in peer review processes, editorial policies, publishing workflows, and continuous improvement.

  • Perform detailed scope and submission compliance checks on manuscripts, ensuring files, metadata, and supporting information meet journal requirements before peer review.

  • Review submissions for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to established editorial standards and policies.

  • Identify, source, invite, and assign appropriate reviewers and Article Editors for submitted manuscripts.

  • Support Article Editors throughout peer review, including reviewer invitations, assignment management, follow-ups, and review completion activities.

  • Monitor manuscript progress and ensure submissions move efficiently through the appropriate workflow stages.

  • Respond promptly and professionally to emails, service tickets, and stakeholder enquiries, generally within agreed service levels of 48 hours, excluding weekends and public holidays.

  • Communicate effectively with authors, reviewers, editors, and internal colleagues while maintaining a consistently professional and service-oriented approach.

  • Proactively follow up on pending actions, overdue reviews, and workflow requirements to keep manuscripts progressing.

  • Manage assigned workloads while meeting productivity, turnaround-time, accuracy, and quality expectations.

  • Identify workflow issues, system challenges, and process gaps, escalating matters appropriately and supporting troubleshooting when required.

  • Follow established editorial policies, operational procedures, and quality standards.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across India, the UK, the US, and other global locations through email, reporting, meetings, and virtual collaboration.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, knowledge-sharing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Build knowledge of peer review processes, editorial policies, and publishing best practices, sharing guidance or training with colleagues when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

  • Experience in academic publishing, editorial support, customer service, operations, or a related field is preferred; strong fresh graduates may also be considered.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with international authors, reviewers, editors, and colleagues.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when reviewing manuscript files, metadata, and workflow information.

  • Good computer proficiency and the ability to learn and work confidently with multiple systems and workflow tools.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing tasks and manage multiple manuscripts simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities, including the judgment to identify issues and escalate them appropriately.

  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to responsive, professional, and high-quality service.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a geographically distributed team.

  • Proactive learning mindset and willingness to develop knowledge of editorial workflows, peer review, and publishing practices.
