This fully remote role provides senior-level underwriting expertise across SBA 7(a), SBA 504, and USDA lending programs.
You will evaluate complex financial and credit information and make informed recommendations on loan requests.
The position plays a critical role in maintaining credit quality, regulatory compliance, and efficient loan processing.
You will work closely with internal teams, customers, and third parties to move multiple transactions forward accurately and efficiently.
The role combines detailed financial analysis, credit judgment, quality control, and strong customer communication.
You will also provide guidance to colleagues and contribute to underwriting standards, procedures, and process improvements.
This is an opportunity for an experienced SBA professional to take ownership of complex lending decisions in a high-volume environment.

  • Underwrite SBA 7(a), SBA 504, and USDA loan requests in accordance with established lending policies, procedures, and credit standards.

  • Gather and analyze complex borrower, financial, and credit information to assess loan eligibility, risk, and repayment capacity.

  • Review and approve underwriting conditions within required timelines.

  • Review and approve third-party credit-related reports, including appraisals, environmental reports, credit bureau information, and OFAC checks.

  • Ensure appropriate pre-funding quality-control procedures are completed for all applicable loans.

  • Prepare credit memorandums and make appropriate credit recommendations or decisions based on comprehensive financial analysis.

  • Use Moody’s Analytics and other relevant tools to evaluate financial performance, creditworthiness, and risk.

  • Manage multiple loan requests concurrently, ensuring customers receive timely responses and approved transactions are completed accurately and efficiently.

  • Maintain consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders throughout the lending process.

  • Deliver a high level of service to customers while maintaining sound credit and risk-management practices.

  • Provide guidance, training, and subject-matter support to team members involved in loan processing and funding.

  • Ensure loan packages comply with applicable regulatory requirements, SBA eligibility standards, internal policies, and credit guidelines.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of lending policies, SBA rules, procedures, and business practices to ensure applications are accurate and complete.

  • Review and provide input on underwriting and lending guidelines when requested.

  • Complete all required compliance activities and training, including Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering requirements.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of SBA 7(a) and SBA 504 loan underwriting experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of SBA lending rules, regulations, eligibility requirements, and industry practices.

  • Experience within a specialized lending industry vertical is preferred.

  • Formal credit training is preferred.

  • Strong financial analysis, credit assessment, and risk-management capabilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to underwrite and manage a high volume of loan requests while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Strong administrative and technical capabilities with attention to detail and organization.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with customers, colleagues, and other transaction participants.

  • Strong understanding of federal and state banking laws, regulatory requirements, and internal compliance standards.

  • Ability to complete required compliance training and participate in relevant professional development programs, meetings, seminars, and conferences.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check.
