The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership and oversight for the planning, design, and production of metal components and mechanical systems. This role combines high-level design expertise with departmental management, ensuring that projects move efficiently through the full production cycle while mentoring the team and optimizing manufacturing workflows.
Key responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Steering and mentoring the mechanical engineering team, balancing project assignments, and fostering professional development. Build your team of professionals through the interview and hiring process with Human Resources and the CTO.
- Product Development: Acting as a primary contributor for electronic packaging, identifying and qualifying new purchased materials, and designing new manufactured parts.
- Strategic Design: Leading the preparation of preliminary and detailed design drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor, ensuring all designs meet rigorous company standards.
- Project Management: Overseeing the full lifecycle of new product development, from concept and prototyping through final production and market release.
- Vendor Management: Serving as the primary technical point of contact for vendors and suppliers; resolving complex component issues and developing effective workarounds.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with the CTO, production leadership, and other engineering teams to ensure design manufacturability.
- Documentation & Control: Managing BOM (Bill of Materials) structuring, revision control, and utilizing SVN drawing repositories.
- Compliance: Ensuring all mechanical products and systems meet applicable safety, environmental, and industry-specific requirements.
- Safety: Performing duties in accordance with company and OSHA safety guidelines; utilizing provided PPE in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 5–8 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Fabrication Knowledge: Extensive background in metal fabrication, insulation components, and material science.
- Systems & Skills: Advanced proficiency in ERP software, complex BOM management, and SVN version control protocols.
- Process Improvement: Deep understanding of Manufacturing Principles (Lean/Six Sigma) and Quality Inspection.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Power Electronics concepts and high-voltage safety is a plus.
- Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present technical data to executive leadership.
