Salary Information

\r\nCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.�\r\n\r\n\r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**\r\n \r\n\r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this job exists is to protect and serve the citizens of Montgomery County.� Deputy Sheriff Corporals serve as lead workers to Deputy Sheriffs and/or serve as a specialist in a functional area.� Corporals may be transferred from one division to another in order to gain mastery of various disciplines within the department.� They receive assignments which require decision making skills and experience and/or are assigned to a technical specialty within the department. Major work responsibilities may include: completing forms, reports, and other paperwork; gathering facts and evidence; performing law enforcement duties related to assigned division; leading Deputy Sheriffs, Deputy Sheriff Trainees, and/or clerical personnel; developing, conducting, and/or attending training activities; performing outreach, special events, and public relations activities; preparing for and testifying in court; and training deputies and/or serving as a field training officer.� Corporals differ from Deputy Sheriffs in that Corporals are provided with the opportunity to gain experiences in the leadership of others or to perform work which requires extensive knowledge or expertise.� Corporals differ from Deputy Sheriff Sergeants in that Corporals do not have full time responsibility for managing and supervising others, but Corporals may assume leadership and/or supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor. Corporals are typically supervised by Deputy Sheriff Sergeants or Lieutenants.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

\r\nHigh school diploma or G.E.D. and twelve (12) months of continuous service as a Deputy Sheriff, excluding time in service as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee.�\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.��\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

Must maintain\r\nAPOST certification and firearms certification to include rifles and shot guns.\r\nMust maintain certifications in the deployment of taser, use of NCIC, and\r\nDraeger.��\r\n

Additional Information

This position is open only to Montgomery County Sheriff's Department employees who have completed their probationary period and meet the minimum qualifications.\r\n
