Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this\r\nposition exists is to perform emergency dispatching of fire and/or police units\r\nin response to fire and criminal incidents, natural disasters, accidents,\r\nmedical emergencies.� The work\r\nresponsibilities of this position include answering emergency and administrative calls, dispatching appropriate\r\navailable emergency units using Computer Aided Dispatch system, and/or assists\r\nin the execution of legal services and provides support to deputies (County\r\nonly).� This is skilled work in receiving\r\nand/or transmitting emergency telephone, radio, and alarm system calls, and\r\nentering and receiving vital information via computer terminal.� Judgment and initiative are required in\r\napplying established procedures and instructions to various calls or\r\nsituations. Employees in this position\r\nwill learn to operate one dispatch radio system for fire or police within the 6-month\r\nprobation period and when feasible will be offered the opportunity to learn a\r\nsecond radio dispatch discipline and become a Certified Training Officer (CTO).��This position\r\nreports to a Public Safety Communications Supervisor.\r\n�\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants\r\nmust have a high school diploma or GED. �Must have six (6) months of\r\nexperience as a 9-1-1 dispatcher or\r\ncommunications operator with a public safety organization using a\r\ncomputer aided dispatch system.�\r\nNOTE:� Public Safety Communications Operators who have completed their probationary period and the Emergency Communications Center training requirements are eligible for automatic promotion based on seniority. \r\nNOTE:��Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n��\r\n
Special Requirements
Must be available to be on-call\r\nduring emergency situations and to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and\r\novertime as needed. Applicants will be required to submit to a thorough\r\nbackground investigation prior to employment. Must be a certified ECO I. \r\n
