LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland State Police\r\nSalisbury Barrack\r\n2765 North Salisbury Boulevard\r\nSalisbury, MD 21801\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide a complete range of administrative and secretarial support duties to the Barrack Commander, Assistant Commander, Criminal Section Commander, as well as uniform and civilian personnel assigned to the Leonardtown Barrack. This includes working in coordination with allied law enforcement agencies and the public.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsible for typing\r\nconfidential material for the Leonardtown Barrack Command Staff, as well as\r\nTroopers.\r\n�\r\nPrepares routine and\r\nnon-routine letters of appreciation, endorsements, detailed reports, Special\r\nOrders, Form 17's, and routing slips.\r\n�\r\nChecks Commander's and\r\nAssistant Commander's mailbox in their absence. Reviews incoming mail and\r\nfaxes. Notifies Commander or Assistant Commander of matters needing immediate\r\nattention.\r\n�\r\nOpen and appropriately\r\ndisseminate all incoming departmental and U.S. Mail daily. Check barrack emails\r\ndaily and answer all correspondence or direct to appropriate personnel.\r\n\r\n\r\nAnswer\r\nphones and forward calls to appropriate personnel; and provide information to\r\ncallers in accordance with Departmental directives.\r\n�\r\nResponsible for the\r\ndaily processing of all invoices and bills submitted to the installation.\r\n�\r\nPrepares the Check\r\nAccountability Log for checks received for copies of reports. Prepares and\r\ncompletes the bank deposit and ensures a copy of the Check Accountability Log\r\nand deposit slip are sent to Finance Division and filled in accordance to the\r\nagency retention procedures.\r\n�\r\nMaintains, controls\r\nand oversees the entire filing system in the barrack, which includes personnel\r\nfiles, by ensuring those files are of sensitive nature are kept locked and\r\nsecured and to ensure data is placed in the correct designated file.\r\n�\r\nIn the absence of the\r\nAdministrative Specialist, composes and prepares news releases containing\r\ninformation on criminal activity/arrests and traffic incidents.\r\n�\r\nOthers duties as\r\nassigned by Supervisory or Command personnel.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\nExperience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. \r\n2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience. \r\n3.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:\r\n�\r\n1. Two years of\r\nexperience providing secretarial support to an�official,\r\nadministrator or an administrative staff.\r\n�\r\n2. Independently\r\nprepares correspondence and statistical reports.\r\n�\r\n3. Experience working\r\nat the Municipal, County, State or Federal levels of government.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on�a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIn accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public\r\nSafety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject\r\nto an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation before\r\npermanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for\r\nrejection of the candidate.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will\r\nbe considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you\r\nprovide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful\r\ncandidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED,\r\nBETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at\r\nleast one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the\r\nhiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.\r\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your\r\neducation, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.\r\nYou may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may\r\nbe based on your application. Report all experience and education that is\r\nrelated to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and\r\nwill be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph\r\nexamination and substance abuse testing.\r\n
