Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide counseling and other therapeutic\r\nmental health services to adolescents with adolescents with emotional disabilities including court involved youth. This position is an entry level position that requires basic knowledge of effective counseling and group leadership techniques, various treatment interventions, theories of human behavior and group dynamics, patterns of interpersonal relationships, and issues of human growth and development. Under close supervision this position learns to apply principles to practice and assists other professional and paraprofessional staff in providing quality care to adolescents on an assigned unit. This position has multiple vacancies with rotating day (7A-3:30p) and/or evening (2:30P-11P) shifts.�\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� � �Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with a\r\nminimum of 12 credit hours in mental health, health, human services, education,\r\nor related behavioral sciences including six credit hours in psychology,\r\ncounseling, addictions or mental health.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience:�� None.�\r\n\r\n\r\nNote:�Candidates may substitute\r\nU.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a non-commissioned\r\nofficer in Mental, Addictions or�Behavioral Health Counseling and\r\nPsychology classifications�or�Mental, Addictions or Behavioral Health\r\nCounseling and�Psychology�specialty codes in the counseling field of\r\nwork on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n\r\n\r\n

The desired candidate should possess experience working with adolescents with emotional disabilities and court involved youth.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.��Employees in this\r\nclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor\r\nvehicle.� Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a\r\nmotor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n\r\n2.��Employees in this\r\nclassification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary\r\nresuscitation training and maintain current certification. �\r\n\r\n3.��Employees in this\r\nclassification may be assigned duties in a swimming program.� Employees\r\nassigned such duties may be required to obtain certification in Life Saving and\r\nWater Safety.\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.� Persons appointed to\r\npositions in this classification must successfully complete an in-service\r\ntraining program and examination approved by the hiring facility prior to a\r\npermanent appointment.\r\n\r\n2.��Applicants are subject\r\nto a background investigation by the Maryland State Police before a permanent\r\nappointment can be made.� A criminal conviction record may be grounds for\r\nrejection of the applicant by the hiring agency. �\r\n\r\n3.��Employees in this\r\nclassification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number\r\nat which they can be reached. �\r\n\r\n4.��Employees in this\r\nclassification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code\r\nof Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n\r\n
