Main Purpose of Job

Supervises Correctional Dietary Officers who are responsible for supervising incarcerated individuals in the preparation and serving of meals in a correctional facility.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Supervisory Duties include:\r\n\r\n Instructing or informing subordinates and/or correctional staff regarding program expectations and operational goals\r\n Monitoring daily food service and security activities and reviewing reports to assess quality of job performance\r\n Counseling, instructing, directing or disciplining of subordinate staff as necessary in response to job performance or behavior factors\r\n Monitors and evaluates food service operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality assurance guidelines, security concerns and contractual provisions.\r\n\r\n\r\n Reviewing sanitation, meal count and food temperature reports from subordinates, determining appropriate action in response\r\n Coordinating food service operations with institutional management and/or headquarters’ staff\r\n Reviewing and determining appropriateness and accuracy of invoices, supplies and equipment orders and/or food purchases\r\n Inspecting food service facilities, equipment and operations to evaluate compliance with standards of sanitation, quality and efficiency\r\n Preparing required periodic reports to program managers regarding food service operations in units supervised\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school�or possession of a high school equivalency�certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation. \r\nExperience: Three years of experience involving the custody, security and supervision of adult incarcerated individuals workers in a food operation of a correctional institution. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209. \r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience. \r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:\r\n- Three or more years of experience working in a food operation in a correctional setting\r\n

This recruitment is limited to current DPSCS employees only.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n2. Some positions in this classification may require employees to obtain the appropriate State of Maryland driver's license to�operate motor vehicles for the transportation of inmates or supplies. \r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during their probationary period (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following: \r\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status \r\nMust be at least 21 years of age \r\nA completed background investigation \r\nOral interview \r\nPhysical examination. \r\n2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. \r\n3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r\n
