Join Us in Making a\r\nDifference at DJS!\r\nThe Maryland\r\nDepartment of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives,\r\ncreating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking\r\npassionate individuals for the role of DJS Residential Advisor LEAD, so come\r\njoin our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Resident Advisor Lead\r\nposition with DJS provides lead level of work, as it relates to providing\r\nsupervision and guidance to youth residing in a facility operated by the\r\nDepartment of Juvenile Services. The Resident Advisor Lead observes, interacts,\r\nassists youth with everyday life skills and advises them of appropriate\r\nalternative behaviors. This position also trains, assigns, and reviews the work\r\nof lower-level DJS Resident Advisors, but they do not perform the full range of\r\nsupervisory duties. The Resident Advisor Lead must possess a full certification\r\nfrom MCTC and maintain MCTC certification on an annual basis.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or\r\npossession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience: One and one half\r\nyears of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a juvenile\r\nfacility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. The above educational\r\nrequirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in\r\naccordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated\r\nCode of Maryland.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute\r\nsuccessful completion of six hours of supervisory related training approved by\r\nDJS Human Resources for six months of the required experience.\r\n3. Candidates may substitute\r\neducation in criminal justice or the social or behavioral sciences at an\r\naccredited college or university at a rate of 15 credit hours for each six\r\nmonths of the required experience for up to one year of experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n4. Candidates may substitute\r\nU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in\r\nSocial Services Aid and Assistant classifications or Social Services Aid and\r\nAssistant specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology and Welfare field\r\nof work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will\r\nbe given to applicants with experience training, reviewing and approving the\r\nwork of employees in a secure residential juvenile facility/setting.\r\n
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
This recruitment is limited to\r\ncurrent Maryland Department of Juvenile Services employees.\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates who\r\nhave not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level\r\nCorrectional Training Course for DJS staff required for the Maryland\r\nCorrectional Training Commission certificate within 365 days of initial\r\nappointment or placement in this classification according to Code of Maryland\r\nRegulations 12.10.01.03. Employees are required to maintain certification while\r\nemployed.\r\n�\r\n2. Employees in\r\nthis classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a\r\nmotor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a\r\nmotor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Employees in\r\nthis classification that are employed at DJS Youth Centers may be required to\r\ncomplete a Board approved medication technician training program and possess a\r\nvalid Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) certification as a Medication\r\nTechnician.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. In accordance\r\nwith the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of\r\nMaryland, the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish the\r\nminimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of a\r\nDepartment of Juvenile Services employee in a mandated position. These\r\nrequirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations\r\n12.10.01.04, general regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training\r\nCommission, and include:�\r\n�\r\nU.S. Citizenship\r\nor Resident Alien status\r\nMust be at least\r\n21 years of age\r\nA thorough\r\nbackground check, including fingerprinting and drug testing\r\nAn oral\r\ninterview, and\r\nPhysical and\r\npsychological examinations.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Employees in\r\nthis classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with\r\nCode of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n
