Introduction

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is\r\nan independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance\r\nindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and\r\ninsurance professionals’ compliance with State law.� Staff members are\r\nsubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and\r\nother public and private entities.�\r\n\r\nThe MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the\r\nlicensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents)\r\noperating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to\r\nmonitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract\r\nforms.� The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer\r\ncomplaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property\r\ninsurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations\r\nand other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.� The MIA also\r\nhas a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in\r\nhundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

This is a contractual Fraud and Enforcement Investigator position in the Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division. This position conducts detailed civil and administrative investigations into allegations of insurance fraud and other violations of the Insurance Article, by licensed and unlicensed individuals and entities.

POSITION DUTIES

\r\nThe Maryland Insurance Administration’s is\r\nrecruiting to fill a contractual�Fraud and Enforcement Investigator\r\nposition in the Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division. This\r\nposition conducts detailed civil and administrative investigations into\r\nallegations of insurance fraud and other violations of the Insurance Article,\r\nby licensed and unlicensed individuals and entities.� Job responsibilities\r\ninclude interviewing witnesses, respondents and suspects; collecting and\r\nanalyzing documents and other evidence; and preparing detailed reports, case files,\r\nsubpoenas, orders to produce, applications for statement of charges or civil\r\nfraud orders. The Fraud and Enforcement Investigator testifies in Court and\r\nAdministrative proceedings and works closely with prosecutors, Assistant\r\nAttorneys General, and law enforcement agencies. Additional responsibilities\r\nmay include consulting with the Chief Enforcement Officer as well as the Senior\r\nEnforcement Officer�concerning casework. The Fraud and Enforcement\r\nInvestigator is required to travel Statewide to perform job responsibilities.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an\r\naccredited four-year college or university.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Five years of experience\r\nconducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or criminal\r\nmisconduct matters;�or�five years of experience reviewing and\r\nanalyzing financial documents for investigative purposes.�\r\n�\r\n\r\nNote: Additional\r\nexperience�conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or\r\ncriminal misconduct matters, or reviewing and analyzing financial documents for\r\ninvestigative purposes�may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the\r\nrequired education\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this position will be assigned\r\nduties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such\r\nduties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in\r\nthe State of Maryland.\r\n

BENEFITS

\r\nContractual\r\nemployees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree\r\nHealth and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and\r\nwork 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be\r\neligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their\r\ndependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25%\r\nof the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any\r\neligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the\r\nremaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in\r\ndental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life\r\ninsurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one\r\nhour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
