This position is designated as Essential Personnel.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
Perform general maintenance tasks, such as simple construction, preventative maintenance,\r\nimprovements and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and\r\nroadways.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Performs regularly scheduled maintenance services and minor repairs to building equipment items,\r\nincluding but not limited to air conditioning systems, boilers, hydraulic systems, circulator pumps,\r\nair handler units, electric pump motors, refrigeration equipment items, exhaust fans, cooling towers,\r\nand ice chillers.\r\n\r\n\r\nCleans and lubricates pump and motor bearings, adjust motor belt tension and replaces\r\nequipment filters.\r\n\r\n\r\nCleans mechanical and equipment room spaces by sweeping and mopping floors and wipe\r\ndown equipment to maintain equipment and spaces free from dirt and debris.\r\n\r\n\r\nMake daily inspections of the physical plant, facility and utility operations to ensure\r\nthe reliability/safety of all plant equipment optimizing the overall environment for staff, visitors\r\nand students.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerforms plumbing repairs and adjustments to heating systems components, lavatory fixtures, hand\r\nsinks, and water fountains. Unclog toilets, sinks, water fountains and floor and roof drains to\r\nensure proper operation. Repair or replace lavatory enclosure components, panels and hardware\r\nitems. Check pipes for leaks.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerform carpentry repairs including but not limited to repair furniture, move, change or construct\r\ninterior walls, frame, drywall hang doors replace windows and window panes, install cabinets. Apply\r\nfinish and/or paint to competed projects.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerform masonry functions to interior or exterior functions which may include repairs to cracks\r\nand imperfections in sheet rock, block walls, concrete slabs, concrete walkways and asphalt paving.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerform minor electrical repair functions which may include replacing covers, light bulbs, light\r\nfixtures, and assist with troubleshooting electrical wiring problems. Assist with the installation of new\r\nelectrical conduit, wiring and switches.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerform ground maintenance functions which may include, mowing, trimming, pruning, planting,\r\nmulching, weeding and watering. Clean walkways, building surfaces, window wells, gutters. Snow\r\nand ice removal. Maintain and service equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\nPerform other duties that may be required and/or as directed.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nEducation: Eighth grade.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of�experience are�primarily in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates�may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field�for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in facilities maintenance and/or trade experience.\r\n\r\n\r\nWilling to learn American Sign Language.\r\n\r\n\r\nAble to lift 50 lbs. or more.\r\n\r\n\r\nAble to assist with snow removal on the campus.\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code,\r\nFamily Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.�\r\n
