Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations, maintenance of schedules, and overall personnel needs of the Elementary Department to foster a safe, collaborative environment for students, staff, and families. Reporting closely to the Chief Educational Programs Officer (CEPO), the position is responsible for interviewing, orienting, and evaluating faculty, leading department meetings, and implementing professional development. Key academic and operational duties include coordinating student placements, monitoring lesson plans, overseeing standardized testing, and enforcing IEP implementation and data collection. Additionally, this role drives the school’s master schedule, supports the bilingual education philosophy and language and literacy planning and policy, manages school discipline and safety protocols, and monitors the overall well-being and attendance of both students and staff.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

This position is\r\nresponsible for the daily operations of the Elementary Department that entails\r\ndaily coverage, subbing, the support of the department’s needs, and the\r\nmaintenance of daily schedules. In addition to operating the department, this\r\nincludes serving students, teachers, staff, and families. Duties include\r\nassistance in hiring/orientation of new faculty, observation and evaluation of\r\nstaff, the direction of staff/department meetings, the planning and\r\nimplementation of the professional development training and in-service events,\r\nand the coordination of staff assignments and student placements. This position\r\ntakes responsibilities in creating and improving the school’s master schedule,\r\narranging school functions, supporting the bilingual education philosophy and\r\nlanguage and literacy planning and policy, assisting with classroom management,\r\npromoting consistent discipline within the school, enforcing the IEP\r\nimplementation and data collection, supervising state and local standardized\r\ntesting to ensure compliance with established processes and policies, and\r\nmonitoring weekly units and lesson plans that include appropriate educational\r\nobjectives, strategies, and activities. This position includes adhering to the\r\nschool’s school safety protocols, progressive disciplinary action, due process,\r\nas well as monitoring and maintaining student and staff well-being, including\r\nattendance and progress reports. This position collaborates closely with the\r\nCampus Chief Educational Programs Officer (CEPO) and its office as well as with\r\nother programs in the school. May be asked to assume other duties as assigned\r\nby CEPO.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students, Education\r\nof Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special Education required.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Three years of successful classroom teaching experience\r\nwith Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required.� Must be fluent in\r\nAmerican Sign Language and written English. Superior interpersonal and active\r\nlistening skills required.\r\n�\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Deaf Community\r\nis preferred.\r\n�\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must hold the Maryland\r\nState Department of Education (MSDE) Administrator II certification or Supervisors of Instruction, Assistant Principals, and\r\nPrincipals licensure or be eligible to\r\nobtain Supervisors\r\nof Instruction, Assistant Principals, and Principals licensure in the required timeframe.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation\r\nat their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n�\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of\r\nrecommendation.\r\n
