LOCATION OF POSITION
Maryland State Police \r\nCommercial Vehicle Enforcement Division\r\nParkton Scale House\r\nBaltimore County, MD\r\n
Main Purpose of Job
To conduct safety inspections and preventative maintenance audits of commercial vehicles. Inspections are conducted to determine compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to registration, size, weight, safety and operating authority.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Duties include but are not\r\nlimited to:\r\n\r\n\r\n Conducts Level\r\n I, II, and III inspections at portable or permanent scales to determine\r\n compliance with motor carrier laws, size requirements, hazardous materials\r\n regulations, equipment and motor vehicle inspection violations as well as\r\n compliance with the North American Standard Driver/Vehicle inspection\r\n procedures and highway hauling permits;\r\n Inspects drivers, his/her logs,\r\n load manifests and/or related documentation;\r\n Under supervision of a\r\n uniformed officer, sets up portable weighing operations anywhere within\r\n assigned area, observes the scale reading on commercial vehicles and takes\r\n appropriate action;\r\n Examines vehicle registration\r\n documents and driver's licenses to determine compliance with international\r\n registration plan regulations and driver's licensing laws;\r\n Places commercial vehicles in\r\n an out-of-service status when violations have been identified;\r\n Conducts preventative\r\n maintenance audits at trucking terminals;\r\n Conducts post cash\r\n investigations;\r\n Performs other duties as\r\n assigned.�\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\nExperience:� Six months of experience in the mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection of commercial motor vehicles. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in the mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection of commercial motor vehicles on a year-for-year basis for the required education.�\r\n2. Candidates may substitute additional experience in law enforcement activities including vehicle inspections on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to\r\napplicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear\r\nand specific information on your application regarding your qualifications in\r\norder to receive credit.�\r\n\r\n1.����� Formal\r\n(technical) training in the mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection of\r\ncommercial motor vehicles\r\n2.����� Experience\r\nworking at the Federal, State, County or Local levels of government\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n2. Employees in this classification must possess and maintain certification as�required by State Transportation Article, Title 25, Subtitle 111 (h)(2) Respective�Powers of State and Local Authorities, Title 49, Sections 107-108 and 300-399�of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation and as required by the�Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance guidelines.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n2. In accordance with Public Safety Article, Title 2. Department of State Police,�Section 2-204 (b)(6) of the Annotated Code of Maryland, candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background investigation, to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.��A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.�\r\n
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will\r\nbe considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you\r\nprovide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful\r\ncandidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED,\r\nBETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at\r\nleast one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the\r\nhiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.\r\n
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your\r\neducation, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.\r\nYou may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may\r\nbe based on your application. Report all experience and education that is\r\nrelated to this position.\r\n
