Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor - Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position to build an applicant pool for current and anticipated position vacancies. This is a professional position responsible for providing leadership in the administration of education for residents of a correctional facility. This is an Agency specific recruitment for this specific classification and function only with MD Department of Labor.�\r\nThis position could be placed in any classification within the Teacher Series. Salary and exact classification will be determined following an assessment of the selected candidate's education and MSDE Certification using the IEPP Salary Scale.\r\n\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
To create a classroom learning environment in which assigned incarcerated students make\r\nmeasurable progress toward Adult Basic Education (ABE) goals as indicated by the successful progression through the curriculum and/or obtainment of a Maryland High School diploma, and to ensure incarcerated student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) are being implemented and revised in compliance with federal and state guidelines.
POSITION DUTIES
Planning, conducting, and assessing classroom instructional activities; coordinating basic skills testing; maintaining education records; assess and recording progress toward education learning goals for Adult Basic Literacy, Life Skills, and/or GED; developing and implementing individualized and independent lesson plans.�\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:�� Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education. \r\nExperience: None. \r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n1. One (1) year of experience teaching students in an alternative education setting, students who have been incarcerated, and adult learners.\r\n2. One (1) year of experience teaching students with special education services and implementing their Individual Education Programs (IEP) during instruction and testing.�\r\n3. One (1) of experience being a Special Education Case Manager and demonstrating the skills to write IEPs, collaborate with IEP teams, and conduct formal education assessments.\r\n4. Possession of a current Special Education Endorsement as approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.�\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the hiring department. Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal.\r\n\r\n
