Summary 

At Mercury Filmworks, our artists and production teams create award-winning animated film and television projects enjoyed by audiences around the world and our IT team plays a critical role in keeping that creativity moving. 

We are looking for a Systems Administrator who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies, and helping people succeed. In this role, you will provide day-to-day technical support to production staff and corporate teams, assisting with workstation deployment, user support, onboarding, hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting both on-site and remote workers. 

The ideal candidate is organized, technically curious, customer-service focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment where priorities can shift quickly. This is a hands-on role that offers the opportunity to grow technical skills while supporting the technology behind well known and loved animated productions. 



This is a full-time, on-site position based at our Ottawa studio, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 



Key Responsibilities 

End-User Support & IT Operations 

  • Provide responsive on-site and remote technical support to end-users through the IT ticketing system.  
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, printing, and peripheral-related issues across Windows, Linux, macOS, and mobile environments.  
  • Diagnose and resolve workstation, laptop, and remote access issues with minimal disruption to production.  
  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff when appropriate.
  • Track, document, and communicate issue resolution progress clearly and professionally.  

 Workstation & Hardware Management 

  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and upgrade desktop workstations, laptops, monitors, and related peripherals.  
  • Install and maintain operating systems, software applications, drivers, and security updates.  
  • Perform hardware repairs and component replacements including storage devices, memory, graphics cards, cooling systems, and peripherals.  
  • Maintain accurate IT asset inventory and lifecycle tracking records.  
  • Participate in workstation refreshes, hardware rollouts, and infrastructure projects.  

User Account Administration 

  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes including account creation, access provisioning, equipment setup, and system access validation.  
  • Assist with management of Active Directory / Entra ID user accounts, permissions, and group memberships.  
  • Support Microsoft 365 services including Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Production & Data Management 

  • Organize, transfer, archive, and securely store digital production assets as required.  
  • Assist with data integrity, storage management, and secure file-sharing workflows across platforms.  
  • Support remote desktop and virtual workstation technologies used in animation production environments.  

Documentation & Security 

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, and end-user guides.  
  • Follow and help enforce IT security standards, company policies, and best practices.  
  • Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and preventative maintenance efforts.  
  • Contribute to maintaining a secure and stable production environment.  

Team Collaboration 

  • Work collaboratively with the broader IT team, production departments, and operations staff.  
  • Participate in testing, evaluations, and special projects related to new hardware, software, and workflows.  
  • Perform additional duties as required to support studio operations.  



Skills & Qualifications 

Required Qualifications 

  • Diploma or post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Systems, or a related field.  
  • 1–3 years of experience in a technical support, desktop support, or junior systems administration role is an asset.  
  • Working knowledge of:  
    • Windows 11  
    • macOS  
    • Linux environments (CentOS, Rocky Linux, or equivalent)  
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications and services including:  
    • Outlook  
    • Teams  
    • SharePoint  
    • Word  
    • Excel  
    • PowerPoint  
  • Familiarity with:  
    • Active Directory / Entra ID  
    • Remote desktop technologies such as PCoIP, Teradici, and HP RGS  
    • IT ticketing systems and documentation platforms  
    • Video conferencing tools including Zoom and Microsoft Teams
    • Diagnosing and repairing workstation hardware issues.

Assets/ Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting animation, VFX, or media production environments.
  • Familiarity with animation production pipelines and tools.   
  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent technical certification.  
  • Experience with asset management and archival workflows.  
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally if required.  



Work Environment 

  • Hybrid office and remote support environment.  
  • Fast-paced production studio supporting multiple concurrent animation projects.  
  • Occasional after-hours or weekend support may be required during production deadlines or maintenance windows.
