What you’ll do
This position reports to the chief operating officer and is located in Jefferson City. The individual in this position is highly responsible for 
overseeing a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy for MOSERS. This role is critical to maintaining public trust, supporting fiduciary responsibility, and ensuring clear, accurate and transparent communication with members, retirees, employers and the media.   The individual in this position has administrative and supervisory responsibility for planning, directing, and evaluating the development and distribution of all aspects of MOSERS defined benefit communication and education programs.


How you'll spend your time

  • Leads the Communications & Education Section, overseeing strategic communications, member education programs, digital platforms, and stakeholder outreach to ensure clear, accurate, and accessible information for members, retirees, and stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements communication and education strategies aligned with the organization’s mission, fiduciary responsibilities, statutory requirements, and long-term goals.
  • Directs the creation, review, and distribution of multimedia, print, digital, and member-facing communications, ensuring transparency, accuracy, compliance, and brand consistency.
  • Manages staff performance, professional development, budgeting, vendor procurement, operational planning, and cross-functional collaboration to support organizational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Uses analytics, stakeholder feedback, and performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness, improve engagement, and enhance customer service standards.
  • Serves as the primary media contact and coordinates responses to public information requests, legal inquiries, risk management, business continuity, and governance-related communications.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

 

What we are looking for in an ideal candidate

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college in administration, communications, journalism, or other closely related field. 
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional or technical experience, including specialized experience in communications.
  • Three years of experience in technical writing and/or editing.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of website design, hosting, content management systems, compliance, and accessibility standards; familiarity with HTML & CSS.
  • Knowledge of modern digital communication platforms and engagement strategies, including social media, video communications, email marketing, web content strategy, analytics, and digital member engagement tools preferred.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of MS Word & Excel. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and execute an enterprise communications strategy that enables member self-service and supports operational efficiency through clear, accessible, and strategically aligned messaging.
