Urgent Care Nurse
This position will be working with a Veterinarian to provide care for outpatient urgent/emergency cases seen at MSU's Veterinary Medical Center. Provides patient care for ill and injured animals. This position will be primarily providing support to our small animal service; instructing and demonstrating techniques to students; assisting students and veterinarians; maintain supplies, equipment, and the overall cleanliness of hospital areas. Skills you will develop and utilize include urgent care triage, client communication, IV catheter placement, nursing care, knowledge of set up and assisting with urgent care procedures.
Requirements
~1 min readKnowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Six months to one year as a veterinary technician in an educational setting; experience in a teaching hospital
Prior experience with anesthesia and sedation events and monitoring

Lifting and carrying animals up to 50 lbs. individually, or 150 lbs. as a team.
Potential exposure to animals or specimens with Mycobacterium
