POSITION:

The North County Fire Protection District is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Courier. The essential duties and responsibilities for this position are: facilitate the cost-effective distribution, recovery and/or retrieval of medical equipment, supplies, district paperwork or materials; and perform errands and tasks to assist in the day to day District operations.


HOURS OF WORK:

This assignment is a part-time work classification. The Courier classification is considered a “Non-Exempt” employee as defined by FLSA and is overtime eligible. Total work hours range from eight to fifteen hours per week; worked on an as-needed basis. Couriers are provided fifteen (15) minute breaks for each three (3) hours worked; a thirty (30) minute unpaid meal break is required when working over five (5) hours.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practice.

 


  • Ensures each station and administrative building are equipped with adequate supplies.

  • Delivers inter-department mail between NCFPD stations and administration.

  • After-hours work may be requested in the event of District-impacting/emergency events.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


 EXPERIENCE:  


  • No Experience is required. Experience as a courier, in taking inventory, and/or in record keeping is preferred. Current job opening is open to current NCFPD explorers only.


 EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • High School Diploma or GED


LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:


  • Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License. Must be insurable and maintain this status with the District's all-risk insurance carrier.


GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

THIS POSITION REQUIRES GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH:


  • Safe driving, basic computer systems/applications, and area geography and roadways is required.


THE POSITION REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO:


  • Learn District terminology and communication codes

  • Maintain good relations and to communicate well with co-workers and the public

  • Respond in a timely manner to respond to requests received

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Candidates may be subject to a background check.

  • Candidates must have the ability to pass a medical examination.

  • District employees are required to remain a non-smoker throughout employment and are required to sign an agreement to that effect.

iSICK LEAVE: Couriers receive Sick Leave benefits which are accrued at a rate of one (1) hour for each thirty (30) hours worked. TEST PROCESS:


  • Review of credentials/application materials. Candidates determined as best qualified will move on to the next stage in the selection procedure.

  • The testing process may consist of a, computer-based skills test, structured oral interview panel and an interview with the Fire Chief/CEO or designee.

  • To successfully pass the evaluation process, a candidate must successfully pass each component of the exam. A combined total score that comprises a passing grade is unacceptable if any portion of the exam was not successfully passed.  Regardless of the classification/category of the employee, there will be no retesting of any portion of the examination for which a passing grade is not received.  Candidates who successfully pass the testing process will be put on an eligibility list for one year.
