Former police or security service in good standing. Familiarity with use of firearms. Physically fit and able to pass a basic police service agility test, able to stand for long periods of time, walk for long periods of time, lift 50 pounds from the floor to above your head.
Special Certification/Licensure:
Required Certification/License: Minimum Age – 21 years old or older [must be able to legally purchase/carry a handgun].
Must complete minimum of 80 hours of initial training and obtain certification through NMSU Police Department within six (6) months from the date of hire.
Must have a current NM driver’s license or valid driver’s license (eligible for a NM Driver’s License if legal resident of another state) and obtain NMSU driving permit upon hire.
Special Requirements of the Position:
Must be legally able and willing to handle firearms.
Must never have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving domestic violence per New Mexico State Statute 30-7-16.
Must submit to and pass an in depth and rigorous background investigation prior to start date.
Must complete Security Officer level I, II and III training within six months of hire/start date.
Must pass background check by NMSU Police Department, to include fingerprints, polygraph and psychological exam.
Must be able to complete a standard agility test reflecting the typical movements and intensity of an emergency response to a critical incident that could potentially occur on a college campus, as determined by the New Mexico State University Police Department Training coordinator.
Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
