About Nexford
Nexford University is a next-generation, online university serving learners around the world. We are building AI into the core of how students discover programs, learn, and progress through their education. This role is the person who turns that ambition into shipped product.
The role
We are looking for an AI Product Specialist who can take an ambiguous AI brief and turn it into a working product. You will own how AI shows up across our learner experience — from the first interaction with a prospective student through to adaptive learning inside the classroom — and you will partner closely with engineering, learning design, and growth to make it real.
This is a senior, hands-on role. You will write code, ship features, make architectural calls, and own the outcomes. You will not be writing slide decks for someone else to build.
What you will do
- Design and ship our AI product surface. Translate strategic ambition into working systems — orchestration across our learner-facing agents, AI-driven discovery and advising, and adaptive learning experiences. You make the calls on architecture, scope, and sequencing.
- Lead build / buy / partner decisions. Audit current tooling, weigh custom builds against third-party solutions, and recommend the path that gets us to value fastest without locking us into the wrong stack.
- Productionize AI, not just prototype it. Ship features that handle real traffic at our scale, under real cost, latency, and privacy constraints. Set up evals, monitoring, and the feedback loops that keep the system honest in production.
- Integrate across the Nexford stack. Work with our learner-facing systems and operational tooling (LMS, CRM, support, SIS) so AI features have the context they need to be useful.
- Partner cross-functionally. Work directly with engineering on architecture and shipping, with learning design on pedagogy and learner outcomes, and with growth on the discovery and admissions experience. Translate technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders without losing the substance.
- Set the AI quality bar. Define what good looks like for AI features at Nexford — accuracy, safety, latency, cost, learner experience — and hold the team to it.
What we are looking for
Must-haves
- Technical proficiency. You can read, write, and ship production code. You have built AI features that shipped to real users — not just prototypes.
- AI judgment. You are fluent in the modern AI toolkit (LLM orchestration, RAG, evals, agent frameworks) and you know which tool to reach for, when not to use AI at all, and where the field is going. You have opinions, and you can defend them.
- Product sense. You pick the right problem before you pick the tool. You have worked closely with users and your instinct is to test, measure, and iterate — not to ship the demo and move on.
- Build / buy / partner fluency. You are equally comfortable wiring up a third-party API as building something custom. You do not have a religion about either.
- Hands-on by default. You would rather prototype it than write a doc about it. You read code reviews end-to-end. You have shipped enough production AI to know what breaks.
- Cross-functional collaboration. You have shipped products that needed engineering, design, and business alignment to land — and you have done that without becoming a bottleneck.
Nice to have
- Experience in EdTech, online learning, or learner-facing AI.
- Prior work on agent orchestration or multi-agent systems.
- Familiarity with HubSpot, Canvas, or comparable enterprise systems.
- Exposure to evals, observability, and AI cost management at production scale.
If you're passionate about transforming lives through education and have a proven track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences, we encourage you to apply!
