ROLE
Surerus is looking to hire a Fleet Manager in our Fort St John Office. The Fleet Manager is responsible for managing Surerus’s fleet of heavy construction equipment through its entire life cycle, from acquisition through maintenance and repair, to disposal. The Fleet Manager will monitor and maximize fleet utilization, availability, and financial performance while ensuring the continuous improvements of safety, quality, and client satisfaction. Direct reports include equipment administrators and key collaborative relationships include Operations Managers, Rental Managers, Project Managers, and partner Fleet Managers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate equipment allocation across projects, joint ventures, business partners, and third-party
rentals, while providing accurate fleet availability, scheduling, and forecasting information to support
project execution, proposal budgeting, and fleet management.
• Develop, manage, and monitor fleet maintenance cost and capital cost against annual budgets, regularly
reviewing actual costs and forecasts, identifying variances, and implementing corrective actions to meet
organizational targets.
• Collaborate with Operations Managers, Project Managers, and maintenance personnel to perform
maintenance planning coordinating shop schedules, equipment repairs, assembly, disassembly,
relocations, and maintenance activities. Report on performance against the plan and update Operations,
Projects, and Management routinely.
• Develop and maintain forecasting, performance monitoring, and decision-support tools, including
equipment utilization models, maintenance planning models, procurement strategies, disposal planning,
and maintenance and procurement forecasts.
• Support the CEO by overseeing equipment procurement and lifecycle management, including lease-
versus-buy analysis, capital planning, lifecycle maintenance planning, rehabilitation strategies, and
disposal recommendations in partnership with Finance and Operations teams.
• Establish, maintain, and audit equipment rate structures and third-party rental agreements to ensure
competitive pricing, value optimization, compliance, and accurate cost recovery.
• Audit equipment utilization, operating hours, and billable hours to ensure reporting accuracy, compliance
with internal policies, project agreements, and effective asset utilization.
• Lead and promote a best-in-class safety culture across fleet operations, maintenance shops, and yards,
including alignment with transportation safety programs (National Safety Code compliance) and QHSE
program.
• Ensure all fleet assets comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and Quality, Health,
Safety, and Environment (QHSE) standards, including transportation, hoisting, pressure-containing, and
other regulated equipment.
• Design, implement, and monitor operational, financial, and compliance controls related to fleet
management, ensuring effective governance, risk management, and organizational accountability.
• Collaborate effectively with Operations, Project teams, joint ventures, vendors, and corporate support
functions to resolve equipment issues, align priorities, and support organizational objectives.
• Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on fleet performance, budget status, utilization trends,
safety metrics, compliance results, and strategic initiatives
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the Company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
• Degree and/or professional certification in Business or a related field is preferred.
• Other combinations of experience and education may be considered
Experience
• 10+ years of experience in fleet management, with a background in heavy duty equipment / construction
preferred.
• Experience with program development and delivery including research, analysis, and implementation.
• Experience in a field and operations environment, preferably construction.
• Minimum of 5 years working experience in a managerial role.
Skills and Knowledge
• Proven analytical, problem solving, strong and effective communication and time management skills
• Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, can meet tight deadlines and works well under
pressure
• Detailed knowledge of heavy civil and major pipeline construction equipment and management programs
• Strong sense of urgency, must be driven and self-motivated
• Adept at building and maintaining collaborative relationships, exercising influence, and demonstrating a
high degree of proficiency in written and oral communications including formal presentations.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in our Fort St. John corporate office. The position will involve visits to other business locations or project sites.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $155,000 - $185,000 annually. We will consider factors including previous experience, education, skills, and internal equity when determining placement within this range. In addition, we provide a discretionary annual bonus, comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, life and disability insurance, RRSP matching, and paid time off.
