The Opportunity:
The Specialist, Food Safety & Commercialization is responsible for supporting the development, commercialization, and continuous improvement of frozen food products for the brand, while ensuring compliance with food safety, regulatory, and quality standards. The role works cross-functionally with suppliers, quality assurance, marketing, sourcing, operations, and supply chain teams to deliver innovative, safe, and high-quality products that meet consumer expectations and support business growth.

Responsibilities:
Product Development
- Support the development of new frozen food products from concept through commercialization.
- Lead product reformulations, line extensions, packaging updates, and quality improvements.
- Conduct sensory evaluations, shelf-life assessments, and product testing.
- Partner with Marketing and Category Management to identify emerging food trends and innovation opportunities.
- Develop product specifications and manufacturing requirements.
Food Safety & Quality
- Ensure products comply with CFIA, Health Canada, and provincial food regulations.
- Review and approve supplier food safety programs, HACCP plans, and quality systems.
- Support allergen management, nutritional compliance, and product labeling.
- Participate in product risk assessments and food safety investigations.
- Support product recalls, traceability exercises, and corrective action programs.
Supplier Management
- Collaborate with domestic and international manufacturers to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews.
- Monitor supplier compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
- Support vendor qualification and onboarding processes.
Commercialization & Project Management
- Manage timelines and cross-functional project teams for new product launches.
- Coordinate pilot runs, plant trials, and first production approvals.
- Ensure successful transition from development to full-scale production.
- Support launch readiness activities across supply chain and retail operations.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Maintain knowledge of food legislation, labeling requirements, and industry best practices.
- Review ingredient declarations, allergen statements, and nutritional information.
- Support regulatory submissions and documentation requirements.
- Maintain product specifications and compliance records.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Nutrition, Food Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- 2–5 years of experience in food product development, quality assurance, or food safety.
- Experience within frozen foods, grocery retail, food manufacturing, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environments.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, CFIA regulations, food labeling, allergen management, supplier quality systems, and product commercialization.
