Responsibilities
~1 min read- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces throughout the campus.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners as needed.
- Restock restroom supplies, paper products, soap, and sanitation materials.
- Clean spills and respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs.
- Support cafeteria and meal service area cleanup as needed.
- Assist with deep cleaning during school breaks, summer cleaning, and special projects.
- Maintain custodial closets, supplies, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
- Perform moderate facility repairs, including plumbing repairs, basic electrical work, painting, patching walls, furniture repair, door/lock adjustments, fixture replacement, and general campus maintenance.
- Complete plumbing-related tasks such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, repairing toilets, replacing faucets, checking water flow issues, and identifying larger concerns that may require vendor support.
- Perform basic electrical tasks such as replacing light bulbs, checking breakers, replacing outlet covers, troubleshooting basic electrical issues, and reporting concerns that require a licensed electrician.
- Support HVAC / AC maintenance by replacing air filters, checking thermostats, identifying AC performance concerns, reporting system issues, and assisting outside HVAC vendors as needed.
- Assemble, move, and repair furniture, shelving, desks, chairs, and school equipment.
- Conduct routine facility checks to identify safety, maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or repair concerns.
- Report major maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needed vendor repairs to the supervisor immediately.
- Support HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other vendors when outside contractors are on campus.
- Help maintain exterior areas, including walkways, entrances, playground areas, and outdoor trash removal.
- Assist with event setup and breakdown, including tables, chairs, decorations, equipment, and signage.
- Support morning, afternoon, or evening campus operations as assigned.
- Help prepare classrooms and common areas for testing, meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Respond professionally and promptly to staff requests approved by the supervisor.
- Follow all safety procedures, school policies, and confidentiality expectations.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with students, staff, families, and visitors.
Requirements
~1 min read- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous custodial, maintenance, handyman, or facilities experience required.
- Experience with plumbing, basic electrical work, and HVAC / AC troubleshooting strongly preferred.
- Ability to perform moderate repairs and use basic hand tools, power tools, and custodial equipment safely.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Must be dependable, punctual, safety-minded, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must pass all required background checks and school employment requirements.
The employee must be able to regularly lift and move supplies, furniture, trash bags, cleaning equipment, and maintenance tools. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing ladders as needed.

- Ability to troubleshoot facility concerns and determine when an issue should be escalated to a licensed professional or outside vendor.

This position may require morning, evening, weekend, or summer work depending on campus needs, school events, deep cleaning schedules, and facility projects.
