The Office of Research Enterprise is responsible for formulating and providing policy advice, and for developing and implementing initiatives to effectively solicit, coordinate and administer externally and internally funded research activities which enhance the University’s research reputation.
The Research Ethics & Integrity team is responsible for ensuring the University upholds the highest ethical standards in conducting research with integrity. It is responsible for ensuring that UWA research complies with the relevant Commonwealth and State regulatory frameworks when working with animals, human research, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), defence related research and foreign interference.
About the Role
~1 min read- Lead and provide strategic oversight of operations in the management of the Research Ethics team, whose core responsibility is to ensure that teaching and research protocols that use animals, human participants and bio-hazardous materials comply with relevant Legislative and Regulatory requirements and are approved through the University committees established for this purpose.
- Provide authoritative, institution-wide strategic advice and set the policy direction and governance frameworks relating to research ethics and integrity. This includes the principles that guide research and ethical standards which set the framework of sound research practise in conducting research on Indigenous land, with Indigenous peoples or their cultural elements, the use of animals and human participants, and the use of bio-hazardous materials including genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
- Design and deliver a high performing team culture by educating and training the university community of appropriate research integrity and ethical research practice.

- Relevant Postgraduate Qualification in research or demonstrated equivalent experience working within the tertiary higher education system or a research-intensive environment.
- Comprehensive and significant knowledge of the Australia higher education research governance and compliance environment, including the expectations of the NHMRC and ARC, reporting obligations to funders, and the interfaces with human research ethics, animal ethics and biosafety governance.
- Extensive management experience at an appropriate level, with a demonstrated ability to provide high level, effective leadership, motivation and direction to significant teams of staff.
- Experience conducting or overseeing assessments and investigations under a procedural fairness framework.
- Capability to lead the integrity function operationally, including supervising staff and advisers, maintaining reliable case management and records, and reporting on trends to governance committees.
