Job Title: Adult Neuro Community Speech and Language Therapist

Rate: £25.00 – £32.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full time / Part time
Working Style: Hybrid – combination of essential face-to-face patient visits, office-based meetings, and remote clinical administration


We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Adult Neuro Speech and Language Therapist to join a community-based neurorehabilitation service in Southampton. This hybrid role requires regular face-to-face visits to patients in their homes, complemented by occasional office-based meetings and remote clinical administration. Staff may choose to attend the office more frequently if preferred.

The role is ideal for a Band 6 or Band 7 therapist experienced in adult neurorehabilitation or looking to develop specialist skills. You will be part of the Neuro Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team, providing intensive neurorehabilitation to adults with stroke or other neurological conditions who are newly discharged from hospital or at risk of hospital admission. The team covers Southampton City and parts of West Hampshire.

Important: Access to a car is required, as the role involves travel to patient homes across Southampton, the New Forest, Hamble, Andover, and Fordingbridge. Car insurance must cover business use. A Trust laptop, work phone, Smartcard, and System One access are essential for the role.


Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct regular face-to-face assessments and interventions with clients in their homes or community settings.

  • Work as part of a multi-professional neurorehabilitation team, collaborating with acute rehabilitation units, community rehab teams, inpatient wards, and rapid response services.

  • Manage a caseload of clients in community or ward settings, including oversight of rehabilitation assistants.

  • Assess and treat clients with complex or chronic neurological conditions, determining both profession-specific and multidisciplinary rehabilitation interventions.

  • Plan and implement comprehensive programmes of intensive rehabilitation in hospital, clinic, or community settings.

  • Support team operations by managing caseloads during team leader absence, attending MDT meetings, scheduling work, and providing specialist advice.

  • Perform specialist and general multidisciplinary rehabilitation procedures requiring advanced clinical knowledge.

  • Mentor and support junior staff, rehabilitation assistants, and students on clinical placement.

  • Maintain and develop professional skills through CPD, including participation in professional special interest groups and integration of new developments into practice.

  • Contribute actively to team development initiatives.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Experience or a strong interest in adult neurorehabilitation and working with complex neurological presentations.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Flexibility to travel and deliver regular face-to-face patient visits across Southampton and West Hampshire.

  • A proactive, collaborative, and reflective approach to professional practice.
