Leading the recruitment, induction, and probation of medical staff, ensuring compliance with training requirements, specialist registration, and practising privileges.

Overseeing medical staff appraisals, revalidation, and performance management, addressing clinical or behavioural concerns collaboratively.

Providing strategic and operational leadership as part of the Senior Management Team, ensuring healthcare policy, clinical governance, and best practice standards are implemented and maintained.

Ensuring effective medical cover, including robust arrangements for out-of-hours and annual leave.

Leading clinical investigations, complaints, and crisis management, working with senior clinical leadership to resolve issues and drive improvements.

Contributing to continuous learning by embedding lessons from complaints, incidents, benchmarking, and service user feedback.

Maintaining your own clinical caseload, completing mandatory training, and representing the hospital’s clinical expertise with commissioners, partners, and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will:

Be a Consultant Psychiatrist with MRCPsych (or equivalent), Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status, and CCT (or equivalent), listed on the GMC Specialist Register.

Have at least three years’ experience working at Consultant level, with proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across hospital or community settings.

Demonstrate a track record of contributing to service change and improvement at a senior level.

Possess strong leadership and influencing skills, delivering high-quality, innovative, patient-centred care.

Exhibit a flexible, positive, team-oriented approach and a commitment to values-based, evidence-based practice.

Have completed, or be willing to undertake, leadership and management training.
