Western Area Camp Locations:
- Corner Brook, Benoit’s Cove, Stephenville Crossing and Port au Port
Central Area Camp Locations:
- Gander & Glenwood
Hours of Work: Monday-Thursday 8:30 - 4:00 pm, Friday 8:30 - 12:30, 35 hours per week
Rate Of Pay: $ 18.15/hour plus 6% Vacation pay, paid bi-weekly
Job Description: Land-Based Camp Outreach staff will be assisting in the development and facilitation of week-long summer day camps for youth. These camps will take place in multiple locations throughout the Qalipu First Nation territory. Staff will be required to work with young children. Candidates will be required to take part in physical activities such as hiking, running, and swimming. Assist in the delivery of various cultural education sessions for both indigenous and non-indigenous youth. Must love the outdoors as camps will take place primarily out on the land. Employees may be asked to assist with other projects within the department at the discretion of the Director/Assistant Director of the Health and Wellness Department.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the delivery of land-based learning and outdoor education including interpretation, instruction and supervision duties to pre-school aged children and children attending the summer camps.
- Assisting in the development, coordination and delivery of education and child/youth special projects as identified by the Manager of Culture and Community Outreach.
- Coordinating community engagement sessions as required
- Providing support to related CTCD events that further the culture and heritage of the Mi’kmaq people.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Students must be planning to attend full-time studies in the upcoming academic year.
- Students must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year.
- Students must be a member of the Qalipu First Nation or Self-identified Indigenous Person
Experience:
- Strong working knowledge of virtual communication platforms.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions:
Travel to and from Camp Locations:
- Transportation to and from camp locations is the sole responsibility of the successful candidates. Please see camp locations information on page one.
- This position will have duties predominantly met during regular business hours. Travel and overnight stays may be required. Additional travel and flexibility of the work schedule are required throughout the summer.
Working in Outdoor Environments:
- A large portion of the work will take place in outdoor environments with variable weather conditions.
Physical Activity: Physical activity is required including walking, hiking, bending, lifting, and crouching.

- Statutory and Non-Statutory Holidays: Employees are entitled to 13 days offto cover Statutory and Non-statutory holidays per year.
- Under 2 hours Medical Appointment: Employees may attend an appointment of less than 2 hours with no deductions to Sick and Family Medical.
- Discretionary Bereavement:One day off per year for the death of a relative not included as immediate family, a close friend or neighbor.
