• Technical Requirements Ownership: Own the creation, documentation, and maintenance of technical specifications and product requirements in collaboration with the product design team, ensuring every project has a clear, traceable set of requirements from concept through release.
• Electronics Validation: Lead electronic engineering, design validation, and engineering documentation for Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA), battery, charging, and wireless power systems, ensuring adherence to best practices, quality, and regulatory/safety requirements.
• Project Management: Manage multiple projects, ensuring they're delivered within scope, on time, and within budget. Coordinate resources effectively and manage project schedules, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
• Project Delivery: Partner closely with Product Design, Manufacturing and supplier partners to develop new products from concept through production.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM): Review and optimise designs for manufacturability, cost, and quality, working directly with the design team and suppliers to resolve issues before they reach tooling or production.
• Risk Assessment & Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA): Own the DFMEA process for new and existing products. Lead broader technical and program risk assessments across each project.
• Test Plan Definition: Define validation and test plans for new products and design changes, covering functional, environmental, and reliability requirements, and ensuring results are documented and actioned.
• Tooling & CAD Support: Support Product Design in reviewing tooling designs and CAD for associated mechanical/enclosure components, providing electronics fit, thermal, and assembly input ahead of production tooling release. (Final tooling and CAD approval sits with the mechanical/product design function).
• BOM Management: Own and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) across product variants, ensuring configuration control and alignment with engineering change management processes.
.• SOP & Control Plan Development: Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Control Plans for new and existing products, ensuring production processes are documented, repeatable, and quality-controlled.
• Supplier Management: Manage supplier relationships, including sourcing, technical queries, quality issues, tooling trials, and delivery performance, to keep programs on time, on cost, and on spec.
• Compliance & Regulation: Own compliance follow-through for relevant industry regulations, standards, and certifications, collaborating with the Compliance Engineer where required to achieve product sign-off.
• Continuous Improvement: Support current product continuous improvement initiatives, driving design and process changes as required.
• Stakeholder Management: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, to align on project goals, priorities, and resource requirements. Provide clear and timely progress updates using the appropriate tools (e.g. Slack, Monday.com) and address any concerns or issues promptly and effectively.
• Cost Management: Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide input on product cost optimisation strategies without compromising quality or performance. Collaborate with strategic sourcing and manufacturing teams to optimise sourcing and production processes.
• Set the Standard: Be an exemplary team player, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to best-practice engineering standards.
• Strong experience in product development for consumer electronics or hardware accessories, ideally including battery charging or wireless power products.
• Proficiency with electronics design and review tools (e.g., Altium or equivalent) and familiarity with schematic/PCB layout review.
• Strong knowledge of battery management, wired and wireless (inductive) charging systems, and power electronics fundamentals.
• Proven experience managing electronic hardware products from concept to mass production, including PCBA and enclosure integration.
• Strong understanding of DFM/Design for Assembly (DFA) for electronics assembly (Surface-Mount Technology (SMT), box-build), and tolerance/fit considerations between PCBA and mechanical housings.
• Direct experience owning or contributing to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) for electronic/electromechanical assemblies.
• Experience with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)/Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), safety, and regulatory compliance testing and certification.
• Experience developing SOPs and Control Plans for electronics manufacturing and test processes (e.g., ICT, functional test, burn-in).
• Experience working with offshore electronics manufacturers and PCBA suppliers (Asia experience highly regarded).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management capability.
• Experience with plastics and injection moulding is a plus, given close collaboration with mechanical/enclosure design.
