We are seeking an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer to design, implement, and support electrical control systems used in overhead cranes and industrial material handling equipment. This position is responsible for developing new control solutions, improving existing systems, and supporting equipment installation and startup.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial automation, PLC programming, and electrical controls, along with experience troubleshooting complex systems in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
- Design electrical control systems for overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
- Develop and modify PLC programs, HMI interfaces, and control logic for crane motion applications.
- Create and review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Select and integrate components including variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, sensors, and safety devices.
- Ensure control system designs comply with CMAA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and ASME B30 standards.
- Support or lead equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Configure PLCs, VFDs, and industrial communication networks.
- Perform system testing, validation, and operational performance checks.
- Optimize system performance during commissioning and after implementation.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation issues affecting crane systems.
- Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel and field service teams.
- Support modernization projects, retrofits, and control system upgrades.
- Work closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, electricians, and technicians throughout project execution.
- Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
- PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- HMI and SCADA systems
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Motor control systems
- Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics and control system documentation.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or similar networks.
- Strong understanding of crane motion control, including hoist, trolley, and bridge functions.
- Working knowledge of CMAA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and ASME B30 requirements.
