We’re seeking a Packaging Project Engineer to support and lead a range of engineering initiatives within a regulated manufacturing setting. This role is responsible for overseeing packaging-related projects from concept through execution, including equipment design, implementation, and performance optimization.
The ideal candidate is comfortable managing projects independently while also contributing to larger, cross-functional efforts that support production efficiency, compliance, and overall operational success.
- Provide technical support for packaging equipment initiatives across new and existing product lines
- Develop packaging line layouts and support integration of systems and equipment
- Oversee installation, startup, and validation activities for new equipment
- Create and execute testing protocols to ensure proper equipment performance
- Participate in vendor evaluations, including FAT and SAT processes
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, scope, and budgets are met
- Develop cost estimates and monitor project spending
- Contribute to capital planning and long-term project strategies
- Provide regular updates and reports to internal stakeholders
- Review and approve contractor proposals, RFIs, and change documentation
- Partner with internal teams including Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Procurement to resolve issues and drive project success
- Coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and efficiency
- Maintain adherence to internal standards and regulatory expectations
- Ensure all engineering activities meet cGMP and regulatory requirements
- Support change control and validation processes related to equipment and systems
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and standardization
- Promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain technical documentation such as SOPs, reports, and job aids
- Keep accurate records of project activities and outcomes
- Train operations staff on new equipment and updated processes
- Act as a technical resource for team members
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (pharma, personal care, or similar preferred)
- Hands-on experience with equipment design, installation, and validation in a regulated setting
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication and technical documentation abilities
- Familiarity with cGMP and regulatory standards
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flows, and engineering drawings
- Experience with CAD or similar tools is a plus
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams
