A leading international food safety and scientific services organisation is seeking a focused and energetic Junior Microbiologist to join their established testing laboratory on an 18-month contract. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in high-volume microbiology testing within a regulated environment. The successful candidate will support essential laboratory operations, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality are maintained for a diverse range of clients. The position involves shift work, including afternoon and late shifts, to support the continuous flow of laboratory testing requirements. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine microbiology testing and analysis on various samples according to standard operating procedures. Ensure all laboratory activities are performed in compliance with quality and safety protocols. Maintain accurate documentation and records of test results to facilitate timely reporting. Support general laboratory maintenance, including the preparation of media and equipment calibration. Work collaboratively with the laboratory team to meet turnaround times and service level agreements. Monitor and manage laboratory consumables to ensure uninterrupted testing workflows. Requirements A completed tertiary qualification in Microbiology (BSc, ND Microbiology, ND Food Technology, or ND Biotechnology). A hardworking and enthusiastic approach to technical laboratory work. Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoon and late shifts. Reliable transport is highly advantageous due to the nature of the shift work. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to scientific accuracy. Preferred Qualifications BSc in Microbiology. Previous exposure to an ISO-accredited laboratory environment. Required Software Skills Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) experience is a plus. Benefits Midrand and Ormonde Compensation: Starting: R14,500 After 6 months: R17,000 After 18 months (Qualified): R20 000 – R21 000 includes a guaranteed 13th cheque Professional exposure to a global leader in food safety and testing.
