At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The Avionics Test & Operations team is responsible for testing avionics hardware and systems across the entire product lifecycle of Terran R: component-, subsystem-, and vehicle-level. As an Avionics Test Engineer at Relativity Space, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing avionics testing strategies for our rocket systems. This includes working closely with the avionics design team to identify and troubleshoot any issues and developing automation and testing infrastructure to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

About the Role:

In this role, you’ll develop and automate the test infrastructure used to validate Terran R’s Flight Termination System hardware. You’ll build automated test workflows and data review pipelines, support qualification and acceptance testing, and partner closely with avionics, software, and systems engineers to prepare flight hardware for integration.  This role combines hands-on test and lab experience, developing test execution automation and data review pipelines and careful attention to detail, resulting in  automated tests and reports used in our V&V processes.  A strong candidate is comfortable working with CAD models and electrical schematics as well as software requirements and design documents, and can effectively execute, document, and communicate system test results in a collaborative, safety-critical environment.

Some of the technologies we use:

  • Python, Pandas
  • NI PXI, cDAQ, and similar DAQ systems
  • Rest APIs
  • Grafana, Plotly, PowerBI
  • SQL and Document Databases

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in high-reliability product development and/or testing
  • Experience developing and improving test automation frameworks
  • Experience developing automated pipelines to process, visualize, and review test data during and after hardware validation
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues and supporting structured root-cause investigations
  • Hands-on experience with test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, test automation, and data analysis development and verification
  • Experience working within safety-critical or regulated environments with oversight from multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret CAD models, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics to support hardware integration, test setup, and troubleshooting

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience collaborating with aerospace regulatory and safety organizations, including Space Force Range Safety and FAA
  • Experience in a lab or test environment, including supporting test design, execution, and documentation of results
  • Experience designing or debugging custom electronics at PCBA level
  • Experience working on HIL or SIL platforms
  • Understanding of failure analysis process and root-cause investigations
  • Experience working with complex integrated systems (ex: vehicle level integration or testing)
