Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is a leading, innovative educational environment for young women from Year 7 to Year 13. We are proud of our strong boarding community and our commitment to supporting student wellbeing in a safe, nurturing and structured environment.


We are seeking a compassionate and highly organised Pastoral Supervisor to join our boarding team. This is a part time position of 16 hours per week during term time only, working Tuesday & Wednesday nights from 11.00pm to 7.00am, commencing 30 June 2026. This role provides evening pastoral care to approximately 130 girls in Years 9 to 13, ensuring they feel supported, heard, and cared for. About the Role

As a Pastoral Supervisor, you will play an essential part in the wellbeing of our boarders. You will help create a homely and supportive environment where students feel safe and respected. Working closely with our boarding team, you will respond to wellbeing needs with sensitivity, maintain strong communication, and assist in upholding the routines and expectations that support a positive boarding culture.

This is a people-focused, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will be supporting them through daily challenges, celebrating their successes, and helping ensure their boarding experience is positive and enriching.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily pastoral care and wellbeing support for boarding students
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment within the boarding house
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to student concerns or behavioural issues
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with the boarding team regarding student needs
  • Support evening routines, activities and general supervision of boarders

Position Description

Pastoral Supervisor – Boarding House (Rangi Ruru Girls’ School)


Key Objective

To ensure the physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental wellbeing of all boarding students, while maintaining a safe, supportive, and well-managed boarding environment aligned with the values and special character of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.


Position Overview

The Pastoral Supervisor plays a key role in the day-to-day pastoral care, supervision, and operational support of the Boarding House. This role is responsible for student welfare, adherence to policies and procedures, maintaining health and safety standards, and supporting the efficient administration of boarding operations. The position requires active supervision, strong communication, and a commitment to fostering positive student development.

Responsibilities

Student Welfare

  • Ensure students are safe physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally at all times through active supervision within the boarding house.
  • Respond to student concerns with empathy, care, and appropriate action.
  • Report any concerns or irregular student behaviour promptly via daily diary/onBoard or directly to Boarding Managers when serious.
  • Maintain accurate records of student whereabouts through onBoard roll call.
  • Record and monitor all medication distribution using the onBoard system.
  • Promote and implement the Character system, encouraging positive student behaviour and engagement through consistent data entry and reinforcement.


Professional Standards

  • Act as a positive role model, reflecting the values of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies and procedures and ensure consistent adherence.
  • Uphold and promote the Presbyterian special character of the school through actions and guidance.
  • Participate in Performance Planning and Review processes, committing to ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure student car keys are securely managed and only accessible to authorised students during school hours.


Health and Safety

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming office environment.
  • Identify and report health and safety risks, including equipment issues, hazards, and security concerns.
  • Promote and support emergency procedures, including regular drills (fire and earthquake).
  • Oversee the doctor’s room and ensure medical supplies are adequately stocked and maintained.


Office Management

  • Manage student disbursements, ensuring accurate record keeping, invoicing, and reconciliation.
  • Maintain student records relating to welfare, finance, and parent correspondence.
  • Handle incoming phone calls, emails, and messages, ensuring timely communication.
  • Greet and assist visitors, including parents and stakeholders, ensuring a positive and professional experience.
