Software Engineer
Quick Summary
Samba is a media intelligence company. We know what the world is watching, reading, and thinking about — in real time, at scale, across every screen.
Based in the beautiful city of Porto, you’ll be part of our collaborative Engineering & Development teams, working closely with your peers and decision-makers to maintain and develop our global services and products.
As a Software Engineer (L2), you are a builder who bridges the gap between high-level requirements and high-performance reality. Having advanced past foundational concepts, you are currently dedicated to growing your expertise in designing distributed systems that scale effectively. You don't just write code that works; you write code that thrives under the pressure of global data scales.
You will be an integral part of the development cycle, owning features from design to deployment. Working within an agile team, you’ll encounter exciting technical challenges, from low-latency optimizations to complex B2B integrations, in a culture where your voice is heard and your growth is prioritized.
-
Service Evolution: Develop and maintain our core backend and middleware services, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and ready for global traffic.
-
Architectural Input: Don't just follow blueprints, help draw them. By collaborating with more senior colleagues, you’ll participate in the design of software architectures that solve real-world business problems.
-
Data at Scale: Write highly efficient code capable of handling massive amounts of data with ease.
-
Performance Engineering: Implement performance-critical and low-latency solutions where every millisecond counts.
-
Production Insight: Keep the services you build healthy in production. You'll instrument, monitor, and log them, then use those signals to debug real live issues, with support from the team as you ramp up.
-
Collaborative Growth: Work within a peer-led environment where you’ll receive mentorship to constantly level up the team’s collective skill set.
-
Code Craftsmanship: Actively participate in code reviews, advocating for "clean code" principles and maintainability.
-
Global Integration: Build and support B2B integrations with partners and clients across the world, ensuring our data flows seamlessly across the ecosystem.
-
The Foundation: You hold a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or have a similar technical background. You have 2+ years of professional experience in a comparable software engineering role.
-
OOP Specialist: You have a strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming and understand how to apply design patterns to keep complex systems manageable.
-
Comfortable with .NET (or eager to learn): You are comfortable using .NET/C# or similar C based languages. While we value core engineering principles, you’ll be hitting the ground running in a working .NET environment.
-
Distributed Thinker: You have "hands-on" experience (or a very strong conceptual understanding) of Microservices and how they communicate in a distributed world.
-
Tooling Savvy: You are a fluent Git user and feel right at home in a terminal, perhaps even wielding PowerShell or Bash to automate your daily workflow.
-
Clean Code Advocate: You believe that code is read more often than it is written. You take pride in naming, structure, and documentation. You recognize technical debt when you see it and work with the team to chip away at it.
-
Test-Minded: You treat automated tests as part of “done”, not an afterthought. You write tests alongside your code so it stays robust and so the next person can change it safely.
-
Security & Privacy Conscious: You apply basic security and privacy principles by default, handle user data responsibly without exception, and raise a flag early when you spot a concern.
-
Agile Mindset: You thrive in a collaborative environment. You understand that "Agile" is about iterative value, transparency, and constant feedback. You can size and prioritize your own work with input from the team, and you raise a hand early when something drifts off track.
-
Great Communicator: You have strong conversational English skills (written and spoken) and enjoy the dynamic of working with colleagues from different time zones and cultures.
