We are a custom commercial architectural millwork company producing high-end, built-to-spec woodwork for corporate, retail, hospitality, and institutional projects. Our work includes wall paneling, built-ins, feature walls, reception desks, custom fixtures, and detailed architectural woodwork. We are seeking an experienced Architectural Millwork Shop Drawing Designer to create, revise, and issue all shop drawings used for fabrication and installation. This is a mission-critical role responsible for ensuring that everything built in our shop is accurate, buildable, and approved. This role is not just drafting. It is technical ownership of what gets fabricated. Key Responsibilities Create highly accurate 2D and 3D shop drawings for commercial architectural millwork, including wall systems, casework, feature walls, custom fixtures, trims, and built-in assemblies Convert architectural drawings, specifications, and field dimensions into fully detailed fabrication-ready shop drawings Serve as the primary point of contact for all shop drawing communication with clients, architects, designers, and general contractors Receive, track, and incorporate all redlines, markups, and revision requests Maintain strict version control and ensure only approved drawings are released to production Identify design conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues before fabrication begins Coordinate closely with project managers and shop teams to confirm materials, hardware, joinery, and fabrication methods Prepare final “Approved for Production” drawing packages that the shop relies on to build Maintain organized digital records of all drawings, revisions, and approvals Required Experience 5 plus years producing shop drawings for commercial architectural millwork Strong understanding of how millwork is fabricated and installed in a production shop High proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to produce 3D drawings when required (SketchUp, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, or similar is a plus) Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, sections, and details Working knowledge of materials, veneers, laminates, hardware, joinery, and installation tolerances Communication and Ownership This role requires direct interaction with clients, architects, and designers. The designer must be comfortable explaining drawings, responding to feedback, and driving approvals forward. Accuracy, accountability, and attention to detail are critical. One error in a shop drawing can result in expensive rework, wasted materials, and schedule delays. This role exists to prevent that. Who This Role Is For This position is for someone who: Understands commercial architectural millwork at a production level Personally creates and owns the shop drawings Can manage multiple projects and revisions without losing accuracy Takes pride in clean, correct, buildable drawings
