Wood Working Instructor

Provide instruction in wood working techniques in, but not limited to, wood turning, sanding, and finishing of simple wood projects such as wood pens.

• →Create transformational experiences for each guest.
• →Discuss student goals and assess level of proficiency.
• →Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the occasion arises.
• →Assist guest in his/her creation.
• →Maintain studio area.
• →Request and stock necessary supplies.
• →Support the recycling program.
• →Maintain equipment and tools used in woodworking studio.

• Technical woodworking skills are essential; the teacher must be proficient in wood turning, shaping, and finishing techniques. Familiarity with lathe, gouges, and other woodworking tools and vocabulary is required.
• Prior teaching experience is beneficial.

• One or more years of apprenticeship or education in art related field.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret art instructional material and manuals for equipment required.
• Ability to communicate instructions and technique to guest/students. Must have very good communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

• Employee must regularly work with grinding tools, chemicals, sharp instruments and tools appropriate for wood working.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
