Purpose of the Role:

As a Manufacturing Controls Engineering Co-op, you will work with Svante’s high-volume manufacturing team to improve existing automation and controls systems and develop new features for manufacturing and assembly equipment and processes. You will take ownership of assigned projects and drive them through to completion while supporting production teams with equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of technical issues. The role requires a strong technical foundation in real-time mechatronics systems, a hands-on approach, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies while collaborating with manufacturing, product design, test, and other cross-functional teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong foundation in real-time mechatronics and control systems.
• Strong interest or experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, machine vision, robotics, or related manufacturing controls technologies.
• Programming experience in languages such as Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Python, C#, C++, or Java; strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles is an asset.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve equipment and controls issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on, self-motivated, and proactive approach with strong communication, organization, and project management skills; able to take ownership of multiple projects and collaborate effectively across teams.

What Success Looks Like in This Role:

• Develop and improve PLC, HMI, SCADA, machine vision, and robot/cobot features to enhance the performance, reliability, and capabilities of manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and controls systems, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions to minimize production disruptions.
• Maintain appropriate version control and technical documentation while developing a strong understanding of existing controls systems and sharing key learnings with the team.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and product design engineers to develop and improve manufacturing processes, equipment fixtures, controls cabinets, and automation solutions.
• Successfully lead assigned projects from concept through implementation while supporting production teams through equipment training, new feature rollouts, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Bonus Qualifications & Experience:

• Experience with Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Ignition, Keyence, Cognex, Doosan, or ABBsystems.
• Experience with Python scripting, SQL, databases, data analytics, Power BI, or machine learning.
• Experience with mechanical design of manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and jigs using Creo or SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing practices and methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S, PFMEA, and DFMEA.
• Experience working in high-volume manufacturing, industrial automation, or production environments.
