COMMISSIONER - CUSTOMS AND EXCISE

JOB PURPOSE Reporting to the Commissioner General this is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing, developing and directing successful implementation of streamlined customs strategies and policies to enforce excise duties, promote trade, facilitate international commerce, and safeguard national borders to enhance revenue optimization and economic security. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees streamlined customs procedures to facilitate the movement of goods across borders, enhancing trade efficiency while enforcing compliance with customs regulations by modernizing customs operations, simplifying processes, and ensuring customs administration supports economic growth and border security and protection of citizens. Leading the enforcement of excise duties on specified goods - ensuring compliance with legislation and contributing to revenue collection by developing policies for effective excise duty administration. Promoting legitimate trade to balance enforcement activities with measures that support and facilitate international commerce by reducing barriers to trade, and ensuring that customs practices encourage business and economic development by monitoring and analysing trade data to identify trends and opportunities for facilitation. Safeguarding national borders against illicit trade activities - thereby protecting economic and public security to ensure a unified approach to border control. Contributing to revenue optimization and economic security - by applying strategic approach to maximizing duty and tax collections and supporting economic policies that promote growth and stability by aligning customs and excise strategies with national economic and security objectives. Requirements A Master’s Degree in either International Trade, Customs Administration, Law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Additional qualifications or certifications in Leadership, is an added advantage. A minimum of 15 years of experience in financial, trade, operations management, international trade, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior/executive leadership position within a financial, trade related industry and administration.
