BACKEND AND INFRA ENGINEER

About Us We re an early-stage startup on a mission to empower small business owners through AI-driven solutions and practical business tools. We re building our MVP—a dynamic web application with additional integrated components—and need someone who can help shape both our product and infrastructure from the ground up. As an early team member, you ll be involved in a wide range of tasks, especially at the beginning, and will have a significant impact on our direction and success. If you re passionate about tackling real-world challenges, excited by the prospect of building something meaningful, and thrive in a startup environment, we d love to connect.    You must have experience with Python and databases, but you do not have to have experience with everything. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. You must have professional experience with at least some of the qualifications, but not all of them.    What You ll Do • Backend Development • Develop robust server-side logic, primarily in Python (Django) • Handle database design and management (PostgreSQL/SQL) • Create and integrate RESTful APIs for seamless communication • Infrastructure & Scaling • Manage AWS deployments (EC2, RDS, S3, etc.) • Implement infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation) • Plan for cost-effective, secure, and scalable solutions • Containerization & DevOps • Package and deploy services using Docker (Kubernetes a plus) • Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) • Configure monitoring and alerting (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana) • Front-End Collaboration • Work with React-based front-end components • Ensure smooth API consumption and integration with the UI • Problem-Solving & Debugging • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize systems • Tackle technical challenges with scalable, maintainable solutions • Collaboration • Work closely with the founders and the rest of the team  • Use version control (Git) and AI productivity tools • Contribute to an Agile, fast-paced development environment Core Technical Skills • Cloud & Infrastructure • AWS (EC2, S3, RDS) for deployment and hosting • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) • Basic AWS cost optimization strategies • Containerization & Orchestration • Docker and Docker Compose • Kubernetes (nice to have for future scaling) • CI/CD & DevOps • CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.) • Automated testing and deployment strategies • Monitoring and alerting setup • Networking & Security • VPC configuration, IAM policy management, SSL/TLS • Web application security best practices • Database Skills (Critical) • PostgreSQL administration, backups, recovery, performance tuning • Handling read replicas and high availability • Designing and evolving schemas without downtime • Backend Development • Proficient in Python, particularly with Django • RESTful API design (Django REST Framework) • Familiarity with authentication, authorization, and asynchronous tasks Additional Valuable Skills • Scripting & Automation • Shell scripting for automation • Ability to automate routine tasks and maintenance • Performance & Reliability • Designing for high availability • Experience with production incident response • Disaster recovery strategies • Front-End Understanding • Experience with React-based front end • Comfortable integrating front-end and back-end systems • AI Tools • Familiarity with AI coding and productivity tools to streamline development Soft Skills • Excellent English Communication: Able to explain complex technical concepts clearly and work in a remote, multicultural team. • Team Player: Easy to work with, collaborative, and supportive. • Proactive & Innovative: Takes initiative, brings new ideas to the table, and aims to deliver high-quality work. • Startup Mindset: Comfortable with shifting priorities and fast-paced decision-making.
