Manufacturing Process Engineer Position Purpose and Objectives

Key responsibilities include driving improvement to meet our corporate strategic plan, including growth strategies, as they relate to manufacturing operations.

 

The Manufacturing Process Engineer at Thomson-Gordon Group, reporting to the C.O.O., is an integral part of the Operations team, defining and improving our process and technology capabilities within manufacturing operations. In this role, the right candidate will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Developing, optimizing, and maintaining processes related to the Thordon Bearings production and supporting processes.
  • Providing day‑to‑day technical support for Production, Maintenance, and Quality for Thordon operations and related processes
  • Establishing, documenting, and maintaining process parameters and work instructions for manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing trials and experiments to improve polymer performance, yield, throughput, and cost.
  • Analyzing process data and making data‑driven recommendations.
  • Participating in internal and external design and process reviews, with a focus on manufacturability and process capability
  • Supporting the manufacture and approval of prototype and pre‑production parts
  • Leading root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions for process and product issues with our Process Planning and Quality team.
  • Conducting capacity analyses and driving continuous improvement initiatives such as scrap reduction, cycle‑time reduction, and productivity improvement
  • Developing and implementing test methods and inspection criteria.
  • Ensuring appropriate gauging and measurement systems are identified and utilized in Production.
  • Training operators, technicians, and team members on Thordon processes and equipment
  • Supporting troubleshooting and maintenance activities in collaboration with Maintenance and Engineering
  • Ensuring all activities comply with Thordon Bearings Quality Management System and HS&E policies.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of corporate safety programs across the employees and the facility. This includes corporate safety initiatives to ensure operations are well managed in terms of safety
  • Support manufacturing operations in consistently producing high-quality products 
  • Drive Quality Improvements and Reduction in Measurable Waste
  • Develop and execute Key Initiatives in Operations annually 
  • Foster teamwork and transparency within the manufacturing group and all other areas of the business. Proactively support other areas of the business, establishing a culture of one team, one company 
  • Lead and, where appropriate, redefine our Workflow Process Improvement

 

Your Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Material Processing Operations preferred
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications and apply Engineering fundamentals.
  • Working Knowledge of continuous improvement tools (5s, root cause analysis, basic lean concepts
  • Innovative thinker, driven to act proactively and take action when needed.
  • Strong team-building skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude (mechanical engineering, chemical processing)
  • Experience in mentoring and motivating employees
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Able to deal with a demanding and changing work environment.
