We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager for our fast-growing Tripadvisor Experiences org. Tripadvisor Experiences (Viator) is the world's leading marketplace for travel experiences. We believe that making memories is what travel is all about. And with 400,000+ travel experiences to explore—everything from simple tours to extreme adventures (and everything in between) —making memories that will last a lifetime has never been easier. 

This is a hybrid role based out of Krakow on a permanent contract of employment/Umowa o pracę. We are unable to offer B2B contracts at this time.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple engineering pods within an Engineering Group, managing and coaching Managers and Principal Engineers, and owning hiring for the organisation in partnership with Talent Acquisition.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture and champion effective Agile development processes.
  • Partner with Product to create and execute a multi-quarter roadmap across your pods. Hold pods accountable for delivering commitments on time and ensure dependencies - including those outside Engineering - are scheduled to meet them.
  • Work closely with Principal Engineers to drive technology strategy and roadmap that aligns with the wider organisation vision.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals, commitments, and timelines.
  • Hold the teams accountable for operational excellence and quality. Run operations reviews, quality triaging, and incident debriefs. Ensure high-quality post-mortems are completed and action items are closed on time, represent the team in Incident Reviews.
  • Calibrate performance assessments across the team, ensure every engineer has a formal career plan and goals, and deliver consistent feedback.
  • Leverage AI to automate routine tasks and to assist with idea refinement, prioritisation, planning, and document creation. Advocate for effective AI usage across your pods and in the product.
  • Define and enforce engineering best practices to ensure deliverables are complete, on time, and meet a high-quality standard.

 

  • 10 years’ experience of commercial software development.
  • 5+ years of engineering management, including experience as a second-line manager running multiple pods and managing other managers.
  • Background in a product-focused company, collaborating closely with stakeholders to build up a backlog of product and technical initiatives.
  • Directly responsible for performance management, formal career planning, and calibration across a team of teams.
  • Strong mentorship skills, helping managers and engineers to grow technically and professionally.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to deep-dive into designs and tradeoffs when needed, even if not coding day-to-day.
  • Excellent ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions.
  • Proven leadership in driving major projects and actively participating in cross-functional teams in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify risks early, mitigate issues and provide contingency plans.
  • Adept at making high-level decisions about product and technical direction, balancing business objectives with engineering capabilities.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools for planning, prioritisation, and document creation, plus awareness of best practices for producing and reviewing code with AI tools.
