General Merch Clerk FT

The General Merchandise Clerk is responsible for stocking, ordering, transporting, and displaying General Merchandise (GM), Health & Beauty Aids (HABA), and grocery merchandise. This role ensures accurate labeling, product rotation, and compliance with company standards while keeping the department clean and organized. The General Merchandise Clerk also provides customer service and assists with training new team members while modeling Vallarta’s core values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.

  Greet customers and provide outstanding, courteous service.

  Stock merchandise according to planograms, ensuring shelves are full, clean, and label-forward.

  Rotate perishable products, remove out-of-code items, and handle products with care to avoid damage.

• →

  Build and maintain store displays, endcaps, and promotional stacks.

• →

  Review product invoices and report discrepancies or quality issues to the Grocery Manager.

• →

  Return damaged or distressed merchandise to its designated location.

• →

  Safely unload and transport merchandise using appropriate equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, dollies).

• →

  Maintain inventory levels and notify supervisors of overstock or out-of-stock conditions.

• →

  Ensure signage, price integrity, and presentation meet company standards.

• →

  Attend department meetings and support company programs.

• →

  Assist in night crew or cashier duties as needed.

• →

  Follow safety and sanitation policies and report unsafe conditions immediately.

  Foster teamwork, support training of new clerks, and maintain department housekeeping standards.

• →

  Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Stand and walk constantly (6–8 hours/day).

• Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, and reach above/below shoulders.

• Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (longest distance: 12 feet).

• Use of manual pallet jacks, ladders, and other equipment safely (buddy system for full pallets).

• Work in environments with exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures/humidity.

• May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).

• Prior retail or grocery experience preferred; willingness to learn required.

• Knowledge of HABA, grocery, thaw & serve, and vendor products.

• Ability to operate dollies, box cutters, pallet jacks, and ladders safely.

• Strong customer service and communication skills.

• Basic understanding of English language.

• Professional, responsible, and positive attitude.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Ability to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.

• Fast-paced retail setting with direct customer interaction.

• Exposure to perishable and non-perishable merchandise.

• Collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere.

• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
