- Serve under the direction of Lead Generator Mechanic III / Generator II to operate and maintain power plant/spot power generators & equipment
- Promote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and procedures
- Report to the Lead Generator Mechanic III or in his absence Generator Mechanic II on all special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service. Anticipate unscheduled load changes, and detect early indications of power generating equipment malfunctions to maintain continuous service
- Troubleshoot and make comparable low/entry through medium/intermediate level repairs to Gensets, powered support systems, vehicles, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components)
- Responsible for performing hourly, daily, weekly, monthly generator checks in Power Plant/Spot Generation environment
- Responsible for performing generator services IAW manufactures recommendations—250hour, 500hour, etc.
- Assist Lead Generator Mechanic III and Generator Mechanic II with rebuild and/or overhaul-to include top end, in frame and complete—Gensets, powered support systems, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, hydraulic, pneumatic and 12/24vdc electrical components
- Assist in the control and distribution of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines (e.g., PMCS, break down repairs, and periodic maintenance on those of 3 to 16 cylinders and up to 5MW of power)
- When power production malfunctions occur and to ensure personnel and equipment safety, aid to isolate generator/s and bypass fault to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintained
- Ensure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized High Voltage Networks or Switchgear
- Execute the company’s policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network to support LOGCAP V
- When workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, aid with daily Power Plant or Spot Gen operations to include bring online/offline gensets, synchronizing/paralleling gensets, taking hourly generator readings, fueling in power plant environment, electrical distribution installation/maintenance, facility maintenance, housekeeping, etc.
- Fill in required genset service/periodic maintenance/repair documents/reports and turn them over to Lead Generator Mechanic II for verification.
- Ensure required documentation/reporting is sent promptly
- Request/retrieve service/maintenance/repair parts/components from Prime Contractor Consolidated Material Warehouse and transport to genset/powerplant service/repair location
- Attend daily Safety meetings/stand downs IAW with VGS and Prime contractor policies
- Take ownership of equipment/tasks/duties assigned to ensure repairs, maintenance, overhauls, etc. are performed with utmost of quality/safety in mind and IAW manufactures recommendations
- Willingness to attend formal OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) specific genset and/or controls training
- Ensure less experienced members of power gen mechanic team are performing services/minor repairs to high quality standards and IAW manufactures recommendations
- Ensure power generator staff are performing service/maintenance/repair duties IAW US (United States) Military, Prime Contractor, Host Nation and VGS Environmental/Hazmat policies and procedures
- Attend VGS EHS (Electrical Health & Safety) training and establish a status of CP (Competent Person), AP (Authorized Person) or SAP (Senior Authorized Person)
- Operate/perform within the behavioral guidelines/policies/procedures put forth by USG (United States Government), US Military Command, Host Nation, Prime Contractor and VGS
- Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to tropical climatic conditions including frequent rainstorms, high humidity, and temperatures up to 95F degrees in the summer months
- Must be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periods
- As directed by the Supervisor
Requirements

- Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
- Must satisfy the USARPAC Force Health Protection Guidance medical requirements for INDOPACOM prior to OCONUS mobilization, must be able to maintain a Medically Qualified (MQ) rating annually.

- Caterpillar D3600 Master Mechanic or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in medium to large scale operation and maintenance of prime power diesel gensets (50-60-liter engines)
- Experience in maintenance, repair, operation and troubleshooting of genset systems (fuel, induction, cooling, controls, exhaust, engine internal & peripheral) of gen sets ranging from 15Kw to 5Mw
- Experience using all types of hand and power tools, shop equipment such as hydraulic presses, drill presses, hydraulic, electric, or pneumatic lifting devices, etc.
- Experience using all types of measuring devices such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauges, etc.
- Experienced in working with other technical staff
- Ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides covering the complete assembly, troubleshooting, and layout of powered support systems
- Experienced working in international work environments with expatriate or US military
- A thorough knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components including Standard Diesel generators, Controls to include genset synchronizing and paralleling, genset communication/monitoring systems such as Pulse Scada and Switchgear
- Proactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating, and working with (1) Senior managers and staff (to include Site management team), (2) Local and International subcontractors; (3) US Military representatives; and (4) Local officials as required
- Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum
- Ability to follow troubleshooting procedures and use deductive reasoning to isolate the fault; and provide step by step feedback on all steps taking
- Able to take specific verbal and written directions and carryout directions from the shift supervisor. Decisions made are covered by specific, well-established work methods and procedures
- In the event problems arise, mechanics at this level are able take corrective action in accordance with instructions or notify their supervisor
- Experience in providing prime power O&M (Operation & Maintenance) Services to clients
- Knowledge and experience of occupational hazards for electrical and mechanical trades, related safety practices, and skill needed for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generator systems and equipment
- Basic knowledge and trained with current certification of First Aid & CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- Must rescue an injured victim from an electrical conductor
- Must know Lockout/Tagout Procedures
- Ability to read, comprehend/understand and apply information contained in manufacturer equipment manuals, facility document including drawings and specification, operation and maintenance manuals, standard operating and emergency response procedures, material safety data sheets, etc.
- Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problems
- Specific understanding and knowledge of power generation equipment startup and shut down and basic equipment maintenance procedures as they relate to the power generation equipment and/or auxiliary operator
- Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum
- Must have knowledge of use and proper application of Personal Protective Equipment
- 5-7 years as Generator Mech I
- Provide Certificates and/or willingness to attend formal training
