About the Role

- Supervise a majority of canvass team trainings, launches, and debriefs in person
- Conduct field check-ins to observe canvassers during shifts
- Provide retraining and in-field coaching when necessary
- Model strong interactions through roleplays and live canvassing
- Connect the canvassing team with the Research and Program team communicating needs, learnings, and program developments.
- Participate in daily cross-team check-in meetings
- Surface any implementation problems and propose solutions for addressing those problems
- Monitor progress towards goals
- Own and facilitate communication channels with the canvassing team
- Develop relationships with the canvassing team
- Balance the roles of client, supervisor, and support while participating in everyday canvassing operations and respecting the firm’s autonomy
- Ensure that we learn from canvassers’ experiences and that their concerns and ideas are communicated clearly
- Manage logistics and reporting (e.g. monitoring canvasser data and quality control reports)
- Conduct qualitative research including field observations and interviews
- Submit daily written reports to Research and Program team that synthesize observations from the day
- Think quickly and take initiative to address problems in field
- Support the Field Director and other team members with other responsibilities where needed.
Requirements
~2 min read- Campaign Exposure. 1-2 years of canvassing experience in a canvassing or similar role (e.g., electoral or union organizing, charity fundraising, customer service outdoors, political internships)
- At least one cycle in a field organizing role (electoral campaign, paid canvassing, or allied organization preferred).
- Location. The Field Manager must live in Detroit, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, or Columbus, Ohio.
- Capability to travel between both cities (Detroit and Columbus) during the duration of the program. Additional travel expenses will be reimbursed by Vote Rev.
- Field Access and Hours. The Field Manager must be willing to:
- Work outside and be mobile for most of the day, regardless of weather.
- Spend ~15% of your time traveling between canvassing locations within assigned city.
- Work a regular Monday-Saturday work schedule and be flexible to changes closer to Election Day.
- Be available to work between the hours of 10am-6pm ET and be flexible to work different hours occasionally to take advantage of events that could be good canvassing opportunities.
- Relationship Management. Able to to build trust, demonstrate credibility, and communicate effectively when engaging with external stakeholders and internal team members.
- Documentation and Reporting. Demonstrated experience with logistics and exceptional organizational skills. Proficiency in Google Docs and Sheets, and willing to learn tools for team chat (Slack) and task tracking (Asana).
- Problem Solving. Able to jump in and fix anything that goes wrong or needs adjustment in the field. Practical and realistic about identifying and implementing solutions.
- At least one cycle at the Regional Organizing Director level or higher
- Experience with voter file data and management systems (Voterbuilder/VAN, PDI, Reach, Impactive, TargetSmart, Grassroots Unwired, or any similar tools.)
- Experience coming up with and implementing creative campaign strategies, and establishing ways to determine their effectiveness
- Experience or familiarity with Michigan and/or Ohio political landscapes and community issues

This team's work will support a unique blend of canvassing work, design, and behavioral science research. Vote Rev Action Fund has the ability to mainstream the tactics you'll work on across many top campaigns and organizations, potentially generating an election-changing number of votes in 2026, 2028, and beyond!
